I was speaking to someone this morning on this shutdown subject and he made an excellent point.
All this is going to do is make the larger companies more money. they will have more loads and companies like Walmart do all their own hauling anyways. Do you really think Walmart will tolerate their drivers shutting down? Walmart will still have their shelves stocked because the do not depend on the Independants. They may use them but do not really depend on them. It will put the stores that do use Independents in a bind. Something needs to be done and I agree. But a shut down in my opinion will hurt the independents more in the long run. We need to find a solution that the bigger companies will support. Larger Companies like Schnieder are subsidized by the government, so they may feel some financial stress, but no where near what the O/O are feeling. I start School next week, so this has not affected me that much, but when I graduate, I would like to know there is a decent paying job out there that I would not have to worry about losing because of fuel prices drove the company out of business. I would like to have a good career as an O/O in the future and it looks like current O/O are losing everything. How would someone like me think I could do something that many have failed at. Just My $.02 for what it is worth.

I think These drivers have the right idea. This will bring positive attention and attract more supporters than anyone just parking their trucks.
I think these drivers will do more help than 10X the amount of drivers parking in protest. http://www.truckersfun.com/truckingnews/?p=98

The convoy, which included more than 70 tractors, made a mess of traffic along Walnut Street all the way from Interstate 83 to the Capitol Complex and downtown, slowing traffic to a crawl on Third, Walnut, Second and Forster streets.
Protestors did not offer solutions on what the impact on lost revenue from diesel taxes would do in a state that is struggling to find the money to pay to rebuild its aging highway and bridge system.
“Crude prices themselves are at the heart of this,” Kirkpatrick said. “And Harrisburg certainly doesn’t decide what the price of fuel oil is going to be.”
“If trucks stop, America stops,” Kirsch told the crowd. Kirsch said he won’t stop until Americans are paying $2 a gallon for diesel and regular gasoline, and $1.50 for home-heating oil. “And that’s the bottom line because I said so,” he told the crowd.

Why are they striking again?
1. Run compliant 2. Quit speeding 3. Reduce idling 4. Don't take cheap freight ...is too much work and doesn't involve government hand outs.
