I've seen some serious crazy HM poorly loaded while I worked at Con-Way. If the trailer went off it would be one of those where the fire dept does not even try to put it out, just stand back and let it go. The trailer had 4 placards and should have had 6. :shock:

Another time I saw 5000 lbs of bricks going from North Carolina to somewhere in CA. As far as I could tell there was nothing special about them.


I once had a will call where some lady was quite pleased with herself for buying 200 lbs of "Green" pavers from Ohio. I resisted the urge to pop her bubble and mention that she just burnt 25 gal of diesel to get her "green" product to Reno.

 

Many moons ago I hauled a load of oranges from somewhere in Florida out to some warehouse in California. They backed me in, unloaded me and took all the tops off every box of oranges and replaced them with their own box tops and reloaded me with the exact same oranges and sent me to Chicago to deliver them to some unsuspecting grocery warehouse who thought they were getting California oranges but were really getting Florida oranges.

Another time I hauled a load of empty beer bottles from Jacksonville, FL up to some plant in North Carolina. About 60 miles from town to deliver the empty beer bottles, I drive right past an empty bottle processing plant and I did a double-take. WTF! I asked the hi-low driver at the dock "why am I hauling empty bottles all the way from Jacksonville, FL when you have an empty bottle plant an hour down the road?" He told me the owner of his company has had an ongoing feud with the owner of the bottle plant 60 miles down the road - for 10 years - over some broken promise; so he no longer does business with him and has to buy his empty bottles all the way down in FL.

Another splendid memory was the destination mix-up of Nashville and Ashville. My bills said Nashville,NC and the phone number for directions was Nashville, TN. However, the load was going to Ashville, NC. It ended up going to both places over the course of I forget how many days before anyone could agree on which plant it was destined for in the first place before the clerical error. It was a classic example of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing in the typical big company with zero communication between departments and plants.

Then there was the time......

 

Take your Pick Load of Cheese Stamped Made in Washington For the CheeseHead Capital Green Bay WI. Hazmat so nasty was told if the warning light pops on put the WHOLE rig tractor trailer in WATER the envriomental cleanup for that will be cheaper than this stuff if it explodes. Load was packed in 40 K worth of Dry Ice. Best one of all times however was that load of blown in Ping Pong balls that the CA DOT did not believe my Bills and thought I was lying on and cut my seal and then opened my trailer door at the Truckee scale that one time 53footer full of LOOSE PING PONG balls all over his nice clean scalehouse I was like you have to pick them all up and put them back into my trailer now Officer.

I just wanna know how they loaded a 53' dry van with loose ping-pong balls. Did they use a crane and pick the trailer up by the ICC bumper and load it?

Was NOT a Dry van they use a Reefer called blow them in thru the VENT DOOR in the back the drain holes provide enough pressure loss to allow them to load the trailer. Dow Chemical makes that product it is a Flammable Corrisive that has to be kept one of 2 things EITHER SUPER COLD OR BELOW WATER. They make the stuff using pressure suits Rev and it is only hauled when NEEDED. BTW Rev I do have the log sheets that prove the Ping pong ball load plus have 2 other drivers that can back me up on it one of which was my trainee at the time the other was in the inspection bay with me and saw it happen.
