@ Colt

Nice cross chain links!

How do you recommend dealing with the fixed mounted mud flap hangers(like peterbuilt) that don't simply remove with a pin? how about if a guy has a solid double tire fender?

I work at Evadale mill right now but sure been thinking about trucking here lately.

Anyway, just wanted to know living around SE Texas where and who the best beginner companies would be.
I've been driving professionally since 1978. I got my "cdl" when it was just called a class A, in Montana, in 1975, right after High School. The rancher I worked for signed off on my ability to drive truck..he taught me.

If your going to get a CDL, do it through LIT in Beaumont. Much cheaper for you, and the state will finance it. Just wondering though...with all the plant expansion's going on in the area..why get a cdl? SETXWorkforce would train ya up for any number pf positions in a different plant, if your unhappy at Evadale.

Best of Luck
Well it really ain't specifically Evadale,it's just I've been working side by side with people for the last 26 years and I'm sick of it mainly because downsizing and shutting down different departments in the mill.
Pretty much been a loner all my life,I think the job would suit me just right.
I don't think my marriage is going to last much longer anyway,so that;s another thing I don;t have to worry about than, but I do have a 6 year old daughter.
Ok..if driving is what you want to do, make sure you get the "X" endorsement on your CDL, then talk with either Enterprise Transportation, on Walden Rd in Beaumont, or call Dupre Transportation in Lafayette LA. Talk with both of those before going with one of the "Mill" companies.

Step one, throw the chains on making sure not to drive onto your chain ends when you drive onto the chains.

Step two, drive ahead until your chain ends are at the 1 or 2:00 position.

Step three, tighten chains up.

These chains are very tight fitting as they are new, and they are on a high volume tire casing... I had to hook the ends and roll ahead a few rotations to get enough slack to close the boomers.

New tires, new chains equals a harder chain up, this took about 8 minutes for both sides.

This is a boomer, half hr. down the road, still tight, and I didn't retighten, still on first link.

No bungies needed
See....Right there is why I like the Gulf Coast so much !!! No more chains fer me !!! And I've only been down here 2 years !!!

Number 1 rule for "hanging iron". If the roads are bad enough to chain up, you should be parked. Always worked for me.

see it's a regional thing,
but I remember watching an episode of "ICE ROAD TRUCKERS" <they're up north> and they were kidding around and seemed to have the same opinion about chaining up. Then again their driving on lakes of Ice, not trying to claw their way up 'em big hills.

Yeah, I've agreed before----you got to get rolling and can't become Donner Party Status and eat your co-driver.

was the "big Dummy" @ me? or BigDiesel?

I've ran the Alaskan 'wagon trail' twice in a mini-van during summer while my sis was living up there (hubby stationed at Ft Richardson) I know you can go through TIRES and god help you if you don't head the warnings about no fuel next XXX miles. I didn't notice any mountains that were any more 'scary' looking than ones in western U.S. during winter--but then again I haven't been on them in winter.

as for Johnny getting his load to Alaska----he probably needs to take it and place it on a ship during winter---that's how many other loads make it there.
