the leads are sometimes divided into 3 compartments and carry up to 39,000 Liters of fuel/liquid, and the pup trailers(tankers) are 2 compartment tankers carrying 27,000 liters. Why not allowed to use single chains? wouldn't know- probably Canadian Law or safety issue.----single chains for that many tires would be a lot of iron to be hanging. Chains can break-be thrown- knocking holes in the tanker- then you have an enviromental spill. I would imagine- this is why they want to keep the iron together in duel(triple rail chains) all the above about the chains is just speculation

I'm not positive but I think it has something to do with chewing up the road. I'll have to investigate that one. Either that or just the fact that they aren't signifigant enough.
headborg explained it pretty good. Problem with these buggers is the dragggg. NO weight on the drives when empty. Every time I've spun out with one its when I'm empty. When the road is slick man you know it before anyone else, freakin things are all over the place. This pic is a few years old, this was my first truck as a rookie. Fuel tanker super b's like Colt pulls are worse because when you climb hills, the fuel will slosh to the back of the tanks, taking the weight off wheere you need it.
