Rev, I can't help the fact that "I" was out driving OTR for the last 5 days. Something that YOU can't seem to "hack" anymore! I didn't "rehash" anything. I read ALL 6 pages before responding, and I saw nothing but misinformation... with YOU at the forefront!

Actually, there were a FEW correct posts, and I wanted to give them their due. But, YOU have led an onslaught of ignorance on this issue, and I just wanted to set things straight.

You have done nothing since I arrived, but avoid my points against your posts, post stupid pictures that have no bearing on the discussion, and NOW accuse me of being irrelevant.

I don't appreciate you trying to lump me with UTURN (although I don't think I found anything ERRONEOUS in HIS posts.).... and I am no more of an "authority" than the FMCSA. Unfortunately.... YOU have distorted THEIR regulations while ASSUMING a position of authority of your OWN.

Unlike YOU, I don't have to "appear" smart. I AM. I am smart enough to comprehend the rules and regulations.... AND I'm smart enough to know when YOU are misinterpreting them.

When you were RIGHT, I have supported you. But, this time you are wrong, and I'm challenging you to correct or rescind your "advice." I don't recall personally "attacking" you, and I'm only mildly surprised that you would "attack" me!

Your assinine and irrelevant remarks, in lieu of substantive rebuttal, is duly noted..... and I believe OBVIOUS to anyone who is interested in the truth of this matter.

[added] Come to think of it... how did I MISS it.... YOU are actually FOZZY!

Um.... because we get TICKETED on whether or not it is LEGAL.... NOT on whether or not YOU think it is stupid! And I beleive that was the original questin.

BTW, MY safety department TOLD me that they KNOW and "understand" that their drivers might visit a bar now and then while on the road! As long as we get our job done on time, and no incidents arise, it is OUR TIME!

But then, I don't work for, and never HAVE, one of the mega carriers like YOU must have.

Oh.... and do you think YOU could maybe resize your pictures so that WE don't have to scroll back and forth to read the posts that appear on the same pages as the OVERSIZE pictures that you think are so important?

Thanks!

Sorry, Steve..... I missed THIS one! And, if you're reading this, and all the posts I've made in the meantime, you are REALLY sloshed!

Like I said, I wish I'd been here to stop the bleeding on this one earlier! Who'd have thought the REV would hold forth with so much confusion!

Anyway.... drink up! It's YOUR turn! Besides.... don't worry.... I'm thinking of getting a laptop. THEN.... I can respond to B.S. on a daily basis! I HATE wasting a good "road buzz!!"

With all the misinterpretation of the rules By drivers, cops, and the DOT. And all the companies with the ZERO tolerance. Not to mention there are guys like me who will take your picture loading beer in your truck, or the picture I take of your bobtail tractor in a bar parking lot if I see it, and email it to your company.

Especially if you are my competition. In fact if your company is hauling out of one of my customers, I am going to walk right in the office and show the customer my pictures. And put the bug in their ear that their cargo might get damaged or if "God Forbid" anything should happen they might just get themselves named as one of the defendants in the lawsuit.

You want to explain to a customer how it it perfectly legal and they can't get named in a lawsuit?? With just the little bit of uncertainty I put in their head with tales of people I know who got named as defendants, who did no wrong, but still had to pay a lawyer to defend them. And I am talking true stories not BBR tales.

What do you think that customer is going to do?? I'll tell you,

WHEN IN DOUBT THROW THEM OUT.

And guess who is going to be right there filling their need for trucks.

Why would I do such a F,,,ed up thing to a driver??? Well if you are my competition, I am going to use your every f,,, up to make you look bad. Because my goal is to put the competition out of business.

Knowing all that, and knowing that there are plenty of serious business men out there who will use anything they can to knock you out of the game.

Isn't it just easier and safer to just not drink when you are on the road???

You know when normal people are in a situation where drinking is not a good idea, they just don't drink, it doesn't bother them one bit.

I'm assuming your a lot younger than myself. The Bob Newhart show was a weekly sitcom with Susan Plashet (SP?) as his wife. There was many characters on the show and many times during the 1/2 hour episode someone would say "Ohhhhh BooooooB". Then you took a drink.

I use to be able to drink, now I can't. I have more than 2 or 3 drinks and I fall asleep.

When I talked to those officials in Washington it was very hard to get them to give me real world examples. All three seemed to be Hell bent on the 11/14 hour rule and I better be in bed for 10 hours.

They did not say those things that you corrected above. It was me trying to get them to talk to me normal which was real hard. I felt like they were talking down to me like a Marine recruit. I was looking for a scenario that I could post, something simple that people could follow.

Thanks for all your posts. I find them very informative.

With all due respect, the difference here is when one of your drivers gets in a fatality accident and shows alcohol in the mandatory D&A test, your company will simply shut the doors and the owners will disappear. There is no money there to pay the millions and millions that would be awarded in a lawsuit.

The big mega carriers with lots of cash have a whole lot more to lose by stupidly saying "we KNOW and "understand" that our drivers might visit a bar now and then while on the road! As long as they get their job done on time, and no incidents arise, it is THEIR TIME!"

Without a doubt, that's one of the dumbest things any trucking company could ever say.

Isn't it just easier and safer to just not drink when you are on the road???
Joe nailed it. That, right there, is what it is all about. Regardless of the regulations...regardless of whether or not someone is a drinker or not...if you cannot drive a truck without drinking on the road, you have no business being out there, period.

You only have to be wrong once. That's when the family of 5 dies because you were drinking in your sleeper on YOUR time.

"I don't understand it officer. I'm not drunk. I only had a few beers in my truck on MY time."

"Tell that to the judge. Then, during your sentencing, you can tell that to the relatives of the people you just killed."

I don't get it. Why would anyone ever want to tempt fate that way??? And people wonder why the industry is under such a powerful microscope all the time.

My friend you may just be preaching to the choir!

While your words are strong they just may fall upon deaf ears then the tired rhetoric "It's my life and I'll do what I want!" will echo over and over ad nauseum!!!

Again, more moral policing.....we arent on the road doing anything to bother anyone else when we are shut down for a day or 2. Like i said in my other post...there are big boys and girls out there that can handle drinking without getting on the road and causing problems with it....if you cant handle it, then dont but let others be....If i wanna chill at the local bar or have a few in my truck while i reset after pulling 3100 miles then i am going to. If you want to be a jerky morality officer go ahead. Someone having a beer after a long hard week on their reset or layover does not make them any less of a driver than you. There sure are a lot of goody goody holier than thou drivers on this board.

Now that is truly sad. Say whatever you want to about competition. I get the impression that it probably really pisses you off to see athletes get paid "ridiculous" amounts of money, doesn't it? My life is a rather simple one, but I am thankful for the fact that it needn't involve petty attempts to knock others down.

I hope you weren't filming the route from the Pilot in Hagerstown, a mile and a half up the road, to the local bar & grill on Super Bowl Sunday. There might be evidence of me going for a walk and then watching a football game and relaxing for a few hours before I walked back to the truck stop and went to bed. Oh the horror!
