Everyone has their opinions of what is safe and what is not, personally I trust the web more than a phone, as a phone is 100x easyer to 'hack' than a secured company database. About 90% of identity theft, the information is retrieved from the garbage, bills, credit card statements, bank statements, etc. People don't usually destroy these things when they throw them out, and there are plenty of morons out there willing to go dumpster diving, trash bag stealing, even mucking around in land fills.
Personally I have been on the internet since the early 90s, buy almost EVERYTHING but food off of the internet, etc, and I have NEVER had an incident, but my experience plays a big part in that.
