Listen, I'm not picking on you Mackman. However, you've been on this board for some time now. How many times has a poster come on here whining and crying they were hung out to dry by their company when they told the company they were quitting? A lot!

Why? Because companies have been screwed so many times and their trucks abandoned on the side of the road more times than they can count. So while I may not WANT to work another 2 weeks somewhere, I will because that's the PROFESSIONAL thing to do. We complain that we are not paid or treated like professionals, but yet drivers do things like this all the time. It doesn't help drivers as a whole and only hurts us in the long run.

That being said, some companies will let you go as soon as you give notice. That's fine, at least you did the right thing and you move on with your life. At least you tried.

I hated guys that did that crap(nothing personal against you) when I was a manager. Then they turn around and DEMAND their last check, like I'm all of a sudden supposed to bend over backwards for them. Yeah, right. Two can play that game, and I would NEVER delay their last check, but I sure as hell would not go out of my way to get it right away. They would get that last check as mandated by state labor law and not a day sooner.

I've said my peace and will remove myself from the soapbox.

Actually, this is probably a result of the drivers being screwed by the companies.

hey greg no hard feelings. You did get me alittle worked up but no big deal. Your right the PROFESSIONAL thing to do would be to give 2 weeks but i didnt. I know there going to put it on my DAC so down the road if i want a job with a mega truckin company and they turn me down over it i have no one to blame but myself. But they were the 1st company i worked for that uses DAC. Most likely there going to be the last. O well i took it as a slap in the face when i got my check. There takin there 500 sign on bouns back well guess what they can keep it. I did learn a lesson form this if a company offers a sign on bouns look out. Thats a red flag in my eyes. Good companys dont need to offer sign on bouns cuz the drivers come to them. Hey greg come on back dont leave just yet :P

I just cant sympathize with the companies anymore. Everyone is out for themselves. 58 hrs to make 600-700 bucks? Puhlease! They are just taking advantage of driver who values living at home more than money so they think they can get away with it. If they paid him even 800-1000 a week he may have stuck around. No qualified driver should be making less than 50k a year bare minimum. Thing is people quitting isnt a problem with a good employer who treats and pays their employee right in the first place. I've had 4 trucking jobs and the first 3 people quit every week, some gave notice, some didnt, probably 50/50. At my current job nobody ever quits, maybe 1-2 a year. Funny how when he says he is quitting they promise to take better care of him. How many times have we heard this? LOL! Why didnt they do it in the first place? Because, like I said, they were taking advantage of him as long as they could until he catches on and decides to quit. Sorry to late. If the company had decided Mackman wasnt up to their standards would they have given him 2 weeks? I think not. Mackman sounds like a good worker and a good man and my daddy told me a good man will always have a job and I've never had a problem finding one yet! I've had a job for 30 straight years.

Hey snowman you are 100% right. I cant blame Venezia for trying to get me to stay and so called takin care of me. What is takin care of me mean to them 13/hr  Its allright they dont care the next sucker in line will take the job. But that how these companys work they pay drivers close to nothing and they can run cheaper and take all the work that the better companys have a hard time getting cuz they pay there drivers a good wage. I was drivin up in Brooklyn NY and all that other BS and they give me a check for 637 bucks for 56hrs give me a break. Am glad to see that some people see where am comin from.

It is too bad there isn't a place like DAC where former drivers can blackball these scumbag companies and lying recruiters, so potential recruits would know to stay far away. I bet these companies would change their ways with the shoe on the other foot.

That would work if it reached out to more potential recruits. And if the recruiters weren't here to claim that it is always the drivers, not the company.
