In some of the above posts, how much of all the Volvo-bashing & Mack-loving is based on a rational, unbiased, pound-for-pound comparison by drivers who have driven both extensively, and how much on xenophobia ( since Volvo is not an American brand ) ?
It's a Mack thing.

You wouldn't understand.

Quite a petulant and puerile response. Was hoping for something more mature, thought-provoking, and informative. Too bad you're not quite up to it.

Just as I suspected.

You didn't understand.

You know how Harley Davidson owners wouldn't own a Jap Bike?

You know how Jeep owners wouldn't own any other brand of 4X4?

Well, it's like that with us Mack guys.

To some, a truck is a truck is a truck, but when you're raised on Mack trucks as I was, a Mack is more than just another truck that gets the job done.

Mack is an American Icon, I'm sure you've heard the phrase "Built like a Mack truck".

Have you ever heard someone say "Built like a Volvo truck"?

Didn't think so.

As I said previously, I know there are some Volvo fans on this forum, and if you like Volvos, that's cool, to each his own.

But as I also said before, it pisses me off that Volvo is contaminating Mack trucks with Volvo parts, and I firmly believe that Volvo is intent on phasing out the Mack brand eventually now that they've commandeered the Mack dealer network in North America.

And BTW Graymist, no need to get personal, this thread is about trucks, not "Petulant Puerile responses....that I'm allegedly not up to.

Talking about getting personal, you're the one who set the ball rolling buddy...." You wouldn't understand" was your pearl of wisdom, to which I made a riposte. Kindly check your facts.

And to compare a Mack / Volvo issue to a Harley / Jap bike, is like comparing apples to oranges. Last I heard, a Mack / Volvo is driven not for pleasure, but to make money....for the driver and the owner ; it's debatable how many Harley / Jap-bike owners use their bikes to make money.....they're more an item of pleasure. Your argument doesn't hold.

"It's a Mack thing, you wouldn't understand" is a cliche' for god's sakes.

Splitshifter, if you peruse through my original post which set the cat among the pigeons, the idea behind it was to elicit cold, hard objective facts as to the relative merits / demerits of Mack / Volvo. So far, the responses to that post, including yours, with all due respect, have been high on rhetoric, and not much else.

I'm not a Volvo-lover or a Mack-hater. I just happen to find the former to be a very well-made, practical, if a tad expensive, truck. I have nothing against American trucks. Infact, I find the T800 to be an extremely versatile, reliable and practical truck. As is the International, which I find to be a very good entry-level truck for those aspiring to own theirs....if I were to ever buy my own truck ( highly unlikely ), I would love to start off with a 9400i Eagle, and thereafter graduate to a T800 or a VN610. Everybody who I know that owns the Eagle, has nothing but good things to say about it. Sadly enough, the same isn't the case with Mack. I haven't driven a Pete, so I can't venture an opinion on it.

I'm almost certain that you have way more trucking experience and knowledge than I have. I would encourage you to leverage that, and enlighten those of us that are interested, about the merits of your position on this topic, through the use of informative facts. That's all I ask.

Well let me say this.

When Volvo bought Mack they got rid of the R models the strongest trucks on the road and replaced them with the Granite (CV713) wich if you look is now just about becoming a copy of the Volvo with Mack on the front of them.

Then Volvo got rid of the E7 style of moter the new moters they use now are nowhere near as good as they used to be same thing for the transsmision.

I don't dislike Volvo but I dislike what they are doing to the Macks.

No, there is nothing similar between a a CV713 and a volvo. The CTP713 and the GU713 share an engine with with volvos but thats it

The trannys are the same as always
