I think that unions do serve a purpose for greedy employers(Wal-Mart). Employers that make billions of dollars a year and don't spread the wealth. Unions help the average joe make a living wage and get decent benefits. If it wasn't for unions I bet the wages in this industry would be even worse. Unions set the bar for what we should be getting paid. That being said I work for a non-union company that pays me per trip. I do local deliveries and usually make around $300/day. I am paid to perform. If I too slow then I don't make as much. It's an incentive to work smarter and harder at what you do. We also get bonuses for not calling in sick and fueling where fuel is the cheapest in our area. The company I work for believes in incentives for workers so they get the most production out of us. It makes us more competitive and it benefits everyone.
