And I left the rig in a secure, company-owned droplot.
A droplot is not a terminal prearranged with the company, this is still abandonment. They will have to recover the truck.

In my opinion, (even if you do not want it). YOU "quit" your company the wrong way. Best hope this doesnt come back and bit you in the azz.

Oh well. It's their equipment and it's their problem. You think I'm gonna pay $109.00 of my hard-earned money like that other guy to take a Greyhound (AKA: "crazy-train") home? Sorry, homey don't play that game.

Besides my lawyer said there was no way they could come after me for the recovery fees due to the fact that I left THEIR vehicle on THIER property. Oh they tried, of course -using typical trucking-industry quasi-legal strongarm tactics on company letterhead. But like I said, it all went right into the trash. Actually, some of it did cover the floor of our birdcage at home. DAC, you say? Yeah, I'm sure it's lit up like a Xmas tree. And I'm sure I have some legal recourse there, as well. That is, if I really gave a hoot about it.

I almost left their kingpin lock on a sealed load in the dropyard. The only reason I didn't was because it would have screwed-over another driver.

You see, I'm a big believer in the Old Testament - an eye for an eye. So for all the pay and accessories they tried to short me out of, all the lies and broken promises from dispatch, the illegal loads they tried to get me to pull...well in the end it came back and bit em' in the a$$.

Actually, it may be you who gets bitten. Prospective employers will contact all previous companies and many will check with DAC. If there is an abandonment on your DAC, most carriers consider that a serious issue. At least you left it at one of their drop yards rather than just walking away from it at a truck stop.

When I left Crete two weeks ago I took my truck to the Phoenix terminal and turned it in and did all of the paperwork necessary to leave the company. They gave me a ride to the car rental office and I rented a car and drove home to California. I wasnt expecting any assistance at all and was happy to not have to call a cab!

FYI, Alot of companies have what you call a blacklist, once your name is on that blacklist, you won't get hired by nobody but the worst companies.
No one will touch you.

I know because it happened to a friend of mine, He worked for a company, who shall remain nameless. He was caught with his children, which are minors on the company truck. He go into it was his DM, words were exchanged and he was terminated.

Fast forward a few weeks later, he applies for like seven different trucking companies, no one would call back or hire him, his driving record which was flawless had no factor in it.

Moral of the story is watch who you screw, because even though all trucking companies compete with each other there is also a friendship between them that goes beyond just being in the same line of business.

When I left Sherwin Williams, a private carrier not a common carrier, I gave them more than 2 weeks notice and then they dispatched me down to Reno and when I got in to the DC that same afternoon they gave me a ride to the airport and handed me a plane ticket back to Portland.

I would not expect the same from a common carrier.

While there may not be a blacklist there is a friendship in some respects. I do know that the safety deparments of the different major companies all talk to each other, share date, ideas, etc.

Right. Mr Expert. Since it didn't happen to you, I'm sure you know all about it.

I'm a little skeptical of this too. This might happen in smaller companies, but very doubtful with the bigger ones.

Why not share the name. He's not there anymore.

First mistake. Violated company policy. Got caught. Shame on him.

Second mistake. No excuse for that, especially when you knowingly violated a company policy.

The same companies that steal each other's drivers and freight.
