LMAO!

I was there for the 1st time a few weeks ago and the weather was perfect! While every other place that I'd been to that week was hot as hell, it was a nice 60 - 65 degree day there.

I LOVE going to Frisco!! Of course, I don't have to drag my rig downtown! I cross the Bay Bridge and park it in the Mission District (where my consignee is) and then take a bus for a few bucks anywhere I wanna go!

I also deliver to Richmond alot. There, I can drop the trailor and bobtail to my heart's content, or take the BART into the city. I just wish I was SOLO, so I'd have more time!

That tale of backing around a corner to get out of a jam, made ME lose 5 pounds in sweat.... and I'm just sitting in front of my puter!

This is ONE reason I have NO desire to go local or LTL. I like delivering to DC's in areas that are meant to receive trucks!

Frisco is a great place to visit.... but I sure wouldn't want to drive a truck there everyday!

My last delivery into SF was a cake walk.
We stopped at the east end of the BayBridge. Contacted the CalTrans Engineer in charge of the new 880 bridge and let him know we were at the Toll Plaza. About 45 minutes later 3 CHP cruisers and a couple of CHP bikes showed up, along with 2 CalTrans trucks with directional signs mounted on them. All 3 of our trucks were led into Downtown by CHP, and each intersection, where we needed to make a turn, was closed as we approached. After 3 right turns, we were directly under the bridge abuttments that had been built for the new 880 bridge, where 2 cranes had each trailer unloaded in 15 minutes each, then we were led back out to the 880 bridge, right past the front gates of the new ballpark. Hauling an emergency load for CalTrans does seem to get you special attention. The construction crew was sitting waiting for those cables we had on our trailers. LOL...someone forgot to call and order the delivery, until it was almost to late! Normally those loads were unloaded on the Oakland side of the bridge, at the CalTrans construction staging area, then barged across to SF.

They were the cables that secure the bridge abuttments during an Earthquake. All totaled we delivered 25 loads to the 880 project.

Used to run it when it was Hwy 17 and the Wonderful Golden Gate Truck Stop. I'm sure that dump must be torn down by Now.

Hmmmm..You mean the Bay Bridge was a state route...before it was I-80..then the 880? I always thought they built the BayBridge as part of I-80..to replace the Oakland to SF ferry. The old ferry terminal is under the bridge on the Oakland side...that is where CalTrans has it's offices for the new Bridge project.

I know that there is a Hiway 17 down by San Jose. It goes across the hill's to Santa Cruz.

Unless my memory went terribly wrong 880 used to be 17. Went to Interstate in the Mid--80's if I remember right.

I can buy that. I didn't start running into the Bay area until about 95-96, whenever the big gas crunch was there. I do know that the only Hiway 17 I have been on, runs south out of San Jose...and that is where 880 ends..in San Jose at the 101 on the south...Oakland at I-80 in the north. You can't take trucks on 17 anymore...since like September of 04. You have to drop down 101 to Gilroy, then go west on that little road(152?) to Hiway1 to get into Santa Cruz with a truck now.
I never did understand why they call the Bay Bridge 880, when it is really I-80. 880 is elevated through Oakland.
