The rig does confuse some DOT officers though. Its too long to fit on most scales (85ft) and I got a $1000 ticket in Florida last year because the officer claimed the truck was classed as a straight truck and as such was limited to a 28ft trailer. We paid the fine and appealed it and eventually the Florida DOT admitted the truck was legal and refunded the fine. My boss just bought a new Renegade for a race car hauler and it is spectacular- It has the same living area as mine and also has a seperate bedroom! Birds eye maple and leather interior etc. The box is 22ft! The best thing about the truck is having a bathroom/shower and Kitchen. I don't miss truck stop showers and I love being able to stop anywhere, fire up the generator, take a hot shower and then sit in front of the TV with a home cooked meal. I just make a stop once a week for groceries and I'm good to go. We still have two years to go on the contract and they have been happy so far, I just hope we renew it when it's over. They are talking about putting another couple of trucks out later this year- I'll post the jobs here if and when they become available.

I just found a little video that shows a glimpse of the new truck
http://youtube.com/watch?v=f53hxmksuaM The race car is a Scion tC, front wheel drive with a turboed 2.7 liter four cylinder that generates over 1500 HP at sixty pounds of boost. It runs in the mid-sevens at close to 200MPH. Scary ride! http://youtube.com/watch?v=f53hxmksuaM

I know I am a lucky sob,
You would be amazed how much of a hard time race teams have finding decent drivers though, They end up hiring young kids with little or no experience and in a lot of cases it causes problems!!! At the end of the day it is just a job- My advice to other drivers who want to get into driving for the race teams is to go to the events on setup day and talk to the team managers. get some cards printed with your name and contact info to hand out then follow up with a call. (this can be productive during the "off season" I forgot to mention one of the other nice things about being at the races The following pics are of my nephew who came over from England and travelled with me for a few weeks. I allmost had to force him to get on the plane to go back!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now let the hatin' REALLY begin... |
