I have a job offer from JB Hunt.
The speel is OTR for 14 days, then up to 4 days off. 40 cpm, unknown amount of miles per week. Today I went in for an interview with a local company. The do flatbed, real light loads (max is 23K). No tarping, no chains, just strapping. All they haul is styrofoam. Runs are east of the Mississippi. Pay is based on total revenue. Up to $2K is paid at 20%. ($400) $2100 pays at 21% ($441) And the pay escelates up to a cap of 30% for anything $3K or more. Weekends off, paid vacation every 13 weeks. No medical or retirement. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hey Spencerian, after the sour taste you got in your mouth from CR England, why not take a shot on the Mom and Pops outfit, i know people have criticized you in the past from not listening to other peoples advice, i'm not familiar with the discrepencies you've had with other posters, all i can do is give my advice. If you decide to work with that small outfit you'll most likely get to experience the catch phrase "be known by your name, not by your truck number". I've worked once with a one truck outfit, and it's nice to know that you're the main focus of the company, you stay moving, and it seems to be a less stressful environment than that of a mega carrier like JB. Like I said, i know you've had issues with not really taking in to consideration what we on the forums have to say, you're asking for our opinions, and here's mine, so take some time to think about what you're going to do, but once you decide what it is you want to do, ACT ON IT! Last week you were going on JB dedicated, then a few hours later it was JB OTR, and now you're back to being undecided, just a bit of advice, all this indecision is going to get you nowhere in this industry.

it would take a LOT of foam to add up to a decent check, with that info you provided I'd go with JB. Yeah I know someone will have a problem with that but thats my .02. I drove for them pulling a reefer for a little while , never got rich but my bills got paid on time which is more than I can say now

Do they have work thru out the year, or it's kinda seasonable" Do you have, and do you need medical? B4 you'll have answered those questions, there is nothing to talk about!

How old are you, Spencerain?? (Actually, I ask that question for rhetorical purposes.)
You really should have health insurance; yes, you can buy it on the open market, but individual policies are expensive, and coverage is usually not as good. Also, you really should ask yourself what you are doing about retirement. People can say what they want about JB Hunt, but drivers who are vesten if JB's 401K program have, for the most part, done very well over the years. You mentioned that the M/P pays percentage; As an example, you stated 20% of $2,000. = $400, etc. etc.... Now; how many miles would you have to drive, and how many hours would you have to work in order to make that $400?? Just some things to consider!!

Im with Solo and Useless on this one. The health insurance issue is a BIG one...especially if your married with children. That issue alone makes JB Hunt the only right answer. Insurance isnt cheap to buy on the outside either.....
Definatly the deal maker to my thinking. Good luck either way, get out and run and do your best.
