ALWAYS wear flip-flops or some kind of rubber footwear in the shower. When I was going thru bootcamp several guys in my company contracted foot diseases/rashes/etc... and that was in a shower that I KNOW was cleaned three times a day with AJAX (how.. because I was one of the poor fools that had to do it).

I never go near a shower stall at the terminal, t/s or wherever (except home because I KNOW who's been in that one) without flip-flops.

Here is my advise...

Get your OWN towels and wash cloths.

USE the LYSOL!! My DR told me this after I got an athelets foot infection even though I wear flip flops!! So doc says use the lysol and spray everything down when you first walk in the shower. MEANWHILE use the batheroom, brsh teeth or what ever else you need to do....let the lysol sit for 5 min. Then put your gear on and take your shower!!

as for truck lounges....i stay out of them. We dont smoke and most of them are gross anyway!!

tootie

I'm of the exposure theory. The more things I expose myself to, the more immunities I build up. I should reach the Superman level here in the next couple years with truck stops added in to my normal exposures.

Guess all those years that I spent in college studying things like sepsis, immunology, chemistry, human anatomy and physiology, and nursing, plus the years that I spent working as a degreed RN just don't amount to squat.

I should have known that I would have been far better off matriculating at our local "Truck Stop University"!! Obviously, there are some truck drivers who are FAR more knowledgeable about these subjects!!

You dont have to go to extremes to protect yourself.
"Hot water" doesn't kill half of what you may think it does. Like Useless I spent four years in EMS and there are viruses and bacteria that will withstand the heat of a standard shower. Only things like Virex and other anti-viral sprays will kill that. Keep going in bare foot and sooner or later you're going to catch something bad. Say like Hep C through a tiny open wound on your foot. Be careful people.
