You will fail for not buckling your seat belt, striking a fixed object, running a red light, an accident thats your fault, unsafe driving.

I'll add also if you are sitting at an intersection and move the gearshift into reverse for ANY reason... it's another auto fail..

I think the most common fail is hitting a curb. I think we might be scaring this guy. He is going to think the tests are really hard and tons of people fail.
Just letting you know that not that many people fail driving tests, probably about 1%. Scary thought though. I find that more people fail the drug test than the driving test.

What state is this in? There is no rule where I instructed about not shifting in intersections or over railroad tracks (unless of course the examiner was having the the driver simulate a hazmat load). You will auto fail if you change lanes in an intersection. Another "auto fail" is if the driver drives onto the sidewalk with the trailer wheels or even RUBS one badly enough.
From the KY CDL Manual: When driving through an intersection: Check traffic thoroughly in all directions. Decelerate and yield to any pedestrians and traffic in the intersection. Do not change lanes or shift gears while proceeding through the intersection. Keep your hands on the wheel. 13.1.8 – Railroad Crossing Before reaching the crossing, all commercial drivers should: Decelerate, brake smoothly, and shift gears as necessary. Look and listen for the presence of trains. Check traffic in all directions. Do not stop, change gears, pass another vehicle, or change lanes while any part of your vehicle is in the crossing.

And in the Oklahoma manual:
Gear Usage (for manual transmission) ? Do not grind or clash gears. ? Select gear that does not rev or lug engine. ? Do not shift in turns and intersections. Do not stop, change gears, pass another vehicle, or change lanes while any part of your vehicle is in the crossing.

here in PA, shifting on RR trax is DEFINATELY an auto fail. Shifting in intersections and turns is a point per occurance, but that rule is for training and testing only. Once you have your CDL, shifting in turns and int's is perfectly fine.

Yep I was going around a turn and hit the curb they failed me. But I went and took it again and killed the truck twice on a hill left it in the High side but I still passed this was on the side of the road when we did the pull over test.
