well the biggest one I can think of is an accident or total disregard to saftey

There are a number of things that will cause you to fail a road test. Some of the big ones I can think of off the top of my head are:
-Failing to come to a COMPLETE stop at lights and stop signs. -Speeding, especially in school zones. -Following too closely. -Your tires can not so much as brush a curb when turning. -Improper lane use when turning. -Failing to be alert to all activities going on around your truck. (many students become fixated on what is in front of them) -Here's a big one. Being out of gear for to long. If you miss a gear when approaching a stop and can't get it back into gear. I think you have 5 seconds, but not sure on that one. You must be in Gear at all times, even when at a stop light. -Not stopping at RR crossings. (Most road tests are done under the assumption that you are a Haz-Mat load). -Not noting the hight restrictions on overpasses/bridges. -Running over a pedestrian. -ETC. There are many other things that will prevent a successful conclusion to a CDL road test, but these are a start. |
Not watching the ass ends of their trailers. They either hit the curb on turns, or on the parrel park. Least thats what I have heard from the ones that have failed.

It depends on the company and the expectations. For a prospective student / trainee ...
Number 1 .. do not hit anything. I know of four failed road tests .. all of them involved scraped metal. While taken a physical at the Swift facility I watched a prospective trainee take out the fence making a right turn. At Gordon, trainee smacked a trailer trying to back. Another trainee hit the fence between the yards. You get the picture. I know of one experienced driver failing a road test. He attempted an impossible right hand turn. |

I did everything right, and the examiner said quite calmly...."Wow......hes really lucky......if you had of been loaded, you wouldn't have been able to stop..." phewwwwwwwwww! |
I have heard the pre-inspection can be a real bear. There is so much to remember with someone watching you. Not only do you need to check everything, you have to be able to identify each part and what you are looking for.

They are more obvious ones of course |
