Ok a little more info. I currently make 28 cents so it would be up to 29 cents. Yes I am new but I get where I'm going fast. As a matter of fact this all started when I went in to head of operations to complain that I'm sitting so much. To make a long story short he pulled up my info, and at first thought I wasn't driving legal cause of my times to get where I'm going. Once he went throught the numbers, he saw what I was telling him. That is that I drive with the door shut and don't fool around. Not to digress he pulled me off the dispatcher and gave me to another one. Real nice guy about the whole thing.

Anyway, I'm out of Florida and I'm supposed to be running all 48. Mostly I've been on the east coast.

It seems that so far most are suggesting to take the extra cent. However I know that a lot of people are against making this a industry standard and they must have their reasons.

Unless you are going to run 748 every day, and the only way to do that is running west, give it a shot (more $s in pocket) When freight and miles pick up you can always back out, if they havn't made you sign a contract for a year or something. If they won't let you back out there are a lot of companies out there that pay way better. Sounds like Cypress

I know it's slow this time of year, but the thing is this company isn't. I keep seeing messages on Qualcom that they need drivers to report to work etc, yet I'm given 700 mile trips with 4 days to get there. Note the last part 4 days to get there. When I showed that to head of operations he almost flipped. Obviously me sitting in an idling truck for days is not good for business.

Anyway, also Yoopr, I know I don't have miles under my belt, but remember I didn't go in there and ask to have the truck turned up, they offered me this whole thing of less speed for more money. I'm just trying to figure out what's best for me.

Walking Eagle, I am not under contract and like I said it's voluntary. Honestly what I'm also afraid of is as I'm new and I accept this and next thing you know others like me are doing it and it messes it up for everyone. Cause the guys that come next won't have this choice so if it's bad for me and we all accept it now then that will just be standard for everyone.

If, for the most part, you have been running the East Coast, then take the extra 1cent/mile. There is little point in not doing it.

It seems that so far most are suggesting to take the extra cent. However I know that a lot of people are against making this a industry standard and they must have their reasons.
What you are going to find is that trucking companies are pretty much going to do whatever they decide to do, and the drivers generally have almost no say-so at all, so I wouldn't worry too much about hurting the industry as a whole.

As for 700+ mile trips with four days allowed, I do see that as a problem, and I'm glad that you became pro-active in dealing with it. Back when I drove, I occasionally encountered a similar situation where I was ahead of schedule. All I had to do was make a phone call to my dispatcher, followed up with a Qual-Com message, telling them my anticipated ETA, and they would reschedule me for a new arrival time.

You would be surprised at how many drivers will bitch about things without taking the initiative to try to find a solution to a problem!!!

BOL2U!!

White man asks a Native Alaskan if he expects a harsh winter. Native replies it will be very severe. White man asks how he know this, figuring the answer has something to do with nature, possiby the behavior of wildlife, ocean currents, etc. Native replies, "Whiteman cutting much firewood".

as a team driver driving a truck that is governed at 64.5 mph I know a little bit about governed trucks. Our only bitch about it is it takes a long time to pass a truck going 64 mph. we have only been driving since September but both of us feel that the slower speed has helped us with safety issues. as for income .... 2 to 3 mph = one coffee break per day. We average 1,000 to 1,300 miles a day. We both feel until you have at least 1 year experience over all types of roads and weather slow down and maybe save a life besides your own.
