bear with me 'cause i'm local and don't know these things....... ops:

....but if he quits before his 6month contract is up, will that generate a negative on his DAC, and therefore make it harder to find a job in the future?

Stay put for another month or so. You may wind up going through a training phase at another co if you have under 6 months of experience. There also is no gurantee the miles will be better in the next month somewhere else.

What Co is this that has a 6 month contract?

You can stick it out for another month. It will be cheaper for you to stay put. You're not gonna make $3000 more in one month somewhere else. After that I'd definately start looking. Things are slow right now but it sounds like you're with a company that gives teams the good miles and solos get whats left over. $200 a week for insurance is outragous too.

A 6 month commitment isn't that bad. Most require 12 months. It will be slow for at least another month or two. Things may pick up a little in mid January, but will be slow until about the end of February or first part of March. At least that is the way things usually run.

As to what you can do. If it was me I'd stick it out. As other have said freight is slow this time of the year (happens every year). If it's slow where you are it's no better anywhere else.

Your insurance rate is totally out of line. For $200/week you could get one of the best policies written. Are you sure it's $200/week and not $200/month?

Another point is if you are making .32 cents per mile that's more than most companies pay for low time drivers.

Really 1800 miles per week isn't really that bad at least not for this time of the year.

Best you can do for now is cut all your expenses you can and wait it out. Then setup a saving plan so you will have a couple of months reserve when it happens again.

I'm not a big support of leaving with just 6 months experience. I would rather see a year or more. That opens a lot more doors.

The final choice has to be yours.

Being held Hostage??

If you are, then you only have one more month to go!!

Stick it out. Even if you drive for the sorriest mega-carrier on the highway, (which I suspect you do!!) you're talking about ONE MORE MONTH, then you can tell them to take a flying leap!!

Anyone care to guess why this was done in RED???

I don't know if I would tell them to take a flying leap. But I would see about getting some cheaper insurance, which there is plenty out there.

And again, freight is just really really slow right now. This is just not one carriers problem. Everyone, brokers and shippers, are saying the same thing. There just ain't no freight. And what is out there is really not paying much. You have to fight for every penny.

I just figured what I would make this coming week, if I am lucky, and it ain't much. Not really worth my time sitting and waiting. I am going to go take a shower, and put her into the wind for the house. I'll sneak back out in Jan.

I would stay until your "debt" is paid and most certainly cancel the insurance. There should be/is less expensive coverage out there.
Stay on your dispatcher until you get loaded. Speak to the supervisor and get layover pay.
