Hey HEADED4HOME got a question for you. I've done the searches and not really sure what to make out of them... how long after orientation did it take you to get with your trainer. I've heard everything from immediately to weeks (from the archives).
Kinda lookin for a updated ballpark guestimate ![]() Thanks, -Krzysztof

if you are with swift, it can vary depending on your academy's location
and where the mentors are in the system. when i graduated phoenix, it was a holiday weekend, so many of the mentors were on the road on long runs. i had to wait 10 days before one became available. another thing that can cause waits is preferences. females tend to wait longer for mentors, because of company policies that prohibit female/male teams that are not pre-approved by the higherups in the company. i met a gal that had fired her 3rd mentor because she was getting too many guys who wanted sex from her. she was growing tired of training time, but was smart and patient enough to deal with it as that phase had to be completed before she was released to solo. one piece of advice. avoid lease operators if possible. most 'owner- operators' in swift are actually lease ops. they will either run illegal, using your logbook for hours, or take cross country shots and not let you get your backing in, as they see your time as their money, and rush the process so they can make their lease payments. this is just the reality of the business, and is not meant as a slam, but can be avoided by insisting on a company driver. if you aren't hurting for a paycheck after 3 weeks of no money after school, by all means insist. training time can also vary depending on where you wind up. i spent 50 days in training, as my lease op. left me in richmond (i'm phoenix based) while he got another student out of atlanta. left me 11 backings short of the required 28. it took another mentor to get me back west and my backings completed. i was cleared to solo enroute by doing the sim/log class/road test and the needed backings with this mentor while passing through the kansas city area, as the terminal there had the required equipment, where richmond did not. be patient. that seems to be rule #1 so far....
