There used to be a time when drivers would just take it as face value, a courtesy that, even when not neaded, was just a way to say something non-verbal to your fellow driver and the other trucker would just take it for what it was and would communicate back. Now some drivers cop an attitude about how "they KNOW when they are clear" and "don't need help" and sometimes get really hostile about it. I don't get it.

I generally just grab the mike and tell em to come on over when they want to. This seems to work well and most are curteous enough to thank you. I have found sometimes I will get talkin to someone for awhile just by doing this, which seems to pass the time, even though I only run local

Oh I'm not hostile about it at all. I don't mind if people do it, my pet peeve is just when people signal clearance when there is only a few feet and we're the only vehicles on the road. I usually just flick the markers and wait until I have some more space.
I don't know why anyone would want to follow that close to another vehicle. |
