The streak is over

Couldn't see any hole/hill coming out of Butte since it was still dark when I left.
Sitting in Calgary now. Gawd, I hate having to pay for a day's worth of internet, though.

Nooo prob, bro. Do you remember the brake dust? You could smell it inside the (old and now gone) TA. The CHP was always busy; easy to make their ticket quotas on both sides of the hill. And then they closed the northbound brake-check area! Still, I preferred going down to going up -- what a slow grind. Seemed to take forever with a heavy load.

I got out in early 2001 and it'd already been closed for a few years. That rest area was (still is??) a total pickle park. I don't remember the brake-check sign. A few months ago a guy rolled 'er over just north of the escape ramps. Lost his brakes, he said. He was from somewhere south of Florida and I doubt he could even read that sign.

Just finished my longest deadhead in the past 10.5 years as well: Calgary to Winnipeg - 824 miles. The weather across there was *HORRIBLE*. It wasn't snowing, but the stupid wind was blowing 40+mph broadside to me the entire trip. Add in the blowing snow and cold temps and wow - what a drive.

FINALLY back in the USA. Had to stop at the J in Fargo to fuel up. Nothing funner than pumping 150 gallons into the tank when it's -1 and windy, especially when the pumps decide to run s.....l.....o.....w.....
The bad part that at -1f they were within 2 degrees for their high temp of the day.
