I am curious as to why you don't take the shortest route since your company pays for all tolls?

Because 301 sometimes has problems GMAN. Some days it's quicker to run 95 up and around instead of 301 plus it has stoplights on it. Now when VDOT was doing guardrail work on northbound 95 around Fredericksburg, it was much quicker to run 301, traffic on 95 was backed up 12 miles + all day long. It's a crapshoot most days on which route to run and depends on the time of day a lot.

Going up 95 with little or no problems gets you there in 3 hr40 mins..... Going up 301 through the middle of the day the quickest i've gotten to Federalsburg was 4 hr 20 mins... 301 is shorter but plenty of lights.. the only way you could make the case for 301 is going through there in the middle of the night and that will still cost your 15 to 20 mins

Sometimes, it is better to take the longer route to save the time.
