I spen't over 2 hours last night trying to jumpstart my truck with a little ford ranger. it was charging but realy slow. I tried waveing down cars big trucks, and tried hailing trucks on CB. At one time I remember flashing lights would for surely get someone pull over and see what they could do to help, we had everyone, includeing the police pass us up. Looks like the days of assisting another is passed

I've heard stories about people doing that (helping each other), but I thought it was just an old wives tail the old-timers liked to tell you.

Either too many people being paranoid over getting "stomped and jacked", or more than likely, too oblivious to the minute details on the road that would be worth paying some mind to.

Luckily all the times I've tried to stop and help, there were already enough people covering the guy.

I can understand the getting stomped and jacked part but I flagged enough ppl that someone should have helped. Plenty of trucks passed by me, even heard them talking on the CB till I got on then "Silence" lol

The days of stopping and helping someone might be over. It's sad. I'm not sure how that tradition has started to end. It might be that there is more meanness now days, that folks might be too afraid to stop.
Anytime I see a truck sitting on the shoulder, I get on the radio, and I ask them if they are ok.

You need to keep a wig, mini skirt, and high heals in your truck for occasions like that

Ummmmm..........Why were you parked on the side of the road needing a jumpstart in the first place??

Just curious if you got the issues fixed that caused you to need that jumpstart.

Think about your own schedule years ago, and the one you go by currently.

We weren't quite as rushed back in the 20th century. We didn't have some of the regs we have now, shippers had staging areas, receivers had staging areas. You could get there the night before and wait.

Today, they don't want you there more than half an hour early, and DON'T BE MORE THAN 5 MINUTES LATE. Drivers are under a different set of standards these days. You also have "THE NEW BREED OF DRIVERS" on the road. They're not "OLD SCHOOL". Listening to XM and turning off the CB is part of the changing part of the industry. If you want to get another driver's attention to let him/her know they have a flat on the trailer, you have to get alongside them and hope your air horn is loud enough to be heard over the stereo. I once chased a woman driving for USX more than 15 miles up I-65 in IN, trying to tell her she didn't even have the old lights on the back of the trailer. All the holes for lights were empty. No lights at all, and the sun was going down.

There are still a few of the "old school" out there, but most of us have retired.

You hear a lady asking for help, and you pull over..
She gets out, and you see her as you get out.
You think, "Dag gum, she sounded prettier on the radio".
