I'm a forum junky and always looking for another good one to add to my list. This one looks pretty active so figured I would give it a try although I'll probably hang out in Maintenance mostly.
Cool.
Welcome Larry,
Don't tell anyone this is just between you and me, but Im no trucker either.
You can't start in Maintenance only but it's fun to skip around.

Hi Ladies and Gents.

Im the new kid on da block. Not a driver anymore........havent driven in years...I gave it up for the kids/marriage etc thing

My entire family has driven since I was born.....LONG LONG LONG LONG time ago Now my fiance' is a driver and I take shotgun with him sometimes when my job permits. Ive lived and loved the lifestyle since I can remember.

I live in South Central Wisconsin......have 3 grown kids and 2 grandsons.....and a cat.....affectionately named "Killer".

Ive been "online" a whole lot more years than I care to divulge and found my way here though how escapes me right now. As you can read from another post....I was in an accident last week.......involving a big truck and that fact alone almost breaks my heart.

At least now when I say I feel like I got hit by a truck........NO one can doubt me.....I DO know what it feels like

Be safe out there people....

Default 58 and looking forward to a new adventure!

Hello all! My name is John and I've been in Telecommunicatiions for the past 33 years and I'm tired of it all, so I'm looking at driving a truck. I'm 58, lost my wife 12 years ago of breast cancer, haven't re-married, have two kids both grown and out of the house. Own my home in San Diego and been here for 38 years. Looking forward to starting this new adventure in my life, I think it's going to be GREAT!!!

Default 53 and needing career change .. trucking???

Hi Folks,

My company is closing our office and I am out of work soon. I am in Tech Support for a technology mfg, and so far new job prospects are slim. I have 15 years in tech and also 15+ years in construction (Sheet metal/ac work) and unfortunately, in this currect economy, both are doing poorly. With all the ads I see, paid (sort of) training, and job placement opportunities in OTR, it looks like a reasonable option.

I am single w/ no kids .. just a dog (could be a problem) ... so the life would be more bearable for me than some other folks. I do love driving/road trip/etc and would rather drive than fly anyday .. dumb I know .. but how I feel.

My concern is the dog .. lab mix, 60 lbs ... and the need to take her with me. She loves to ride, all day even, as long as I get out and run around with her a few times. She just wants to be with me .. and sleep a lot.

I'm in the Atlanta area, looking at school options, like Drivers Solutions, to get me going. I'm cash poor so will need the 'paid training' option. Will have to board the dog I guess until I get 'on my own' ... that will get costly I'm afraid.

Appreciate any insight/thoughts! (PM)

Thanks,

Steve

Welcome Steve,

I think most companies don't allow pets anymore. Mainly because of idling and the cost of fuel.

Good luck with your endeavor. CAD is an excellent place to get information! If you can't find it in a search, just ask.

Hello All

My name is Bruce. I believe in God and Jesus Christ and I also believe in the clearly written words of the United States Constitution.

I am medically disqualified now but have logged a little over two million miles. Now I sell truck parts and recycle computers on the side and do a little networking. I am also a moderator on another forum having to do with Cable Modems.

I have been happily married for 32 years this month. (To the same woman) We are a Christian family and have two children. We also have three grand children with another due in February.

I look forward to becoming part of the regular crowd here.

Well, considering the last post was 3 weeks ago, I can assume this thread doesn't get looked at alot, but oh well, I'm bored today.
I just left working on towboats due to my tearing my ACL and having a couple of knee surgeries. All better now, thanks, just didn't like the idea of walking on slick barge gunnels in ice and snow and rain with a gimp knee. The water tends to be cold in the winter.
Am a licensed auctioneer and certified Appraiser who is enrolled in Arkansas State University-Newport's CDL training course. See ya'll out there.

Default Michelsen intro

Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. My father drove for Little Audrey during the 1960's. Although, I never went into the trucking business, trucking has always held a big interest to me. Instead of long tired nights behind the wheel, I spend my nights doing CAD illustrations of vintage tractor-trailers.

Any old vintage tractor trailer pics, especially from Little Audrey's Transportation Co., would be appreciated. Be sure to check my photo album. I uploaded one of my earlier works.

Default Grande In The House

Well lets see my name is Landon, and im returning to the truck driver community, after a 10 year break. Granted I hate driving, but it is in my blood, I have always been around big trucks, heavy equipment, ect. I have been a heavy equipment operator now for 5+ years, but them jobs are hard to find right now. I am a Operating Engineer, and am #1 on the list, just waiting for something good to pop up.

I am also a moderator on another board, so I know my way around these sites :smokin: This place looks like a cool place to hang out, so I will do my best to help out when ever I can. Its great to be here so far anyway

Hi All, I've been lurking here for a couple weeks and figured it was about time to introduce myself. Name's Bob, 56 years old in a couple weeks, married to my best friend and wife for 34 years; 5 kids, 11 grandkids, 1 great grandchild and 3 dogs. Live in Buckeye Lake, Ohio. Life is good.

Spent my first 20 years out of high school in the Army, retired from it in 1991. I'd always wanted to drive trucks as a kid growing up in the coal mining area of eastern Ohio. So, that's what I pursued when I left the Army.

Only planned on doing it a year...and now it's 17 years later, still enjoy it too. The first 7 years was running nationally, 1 year we locked up the house and the wife joined me (passenger) and we just took time off wherever we happened to be...had a great time.

For the last 9 plus years I've worked for a smaller outfit here in Ohio, mainly staying in the midwest with occasional trips to the southeast and east coast, home every weekend and usually one night throughout the week. Then we come to what brought me here, the company I'm with will be shutting down in the near future and been researching various companies.

Funny that this all came about...I'd just been talking to the wife a couple weeks prior to learning I'd soon be out a job, that I was thinking of getting on with an all 48 and Canada fleet for my last 3 years.

Anywho...down to 3 companies, been accepted by all, just need to make a decision by tuesday or wednesday latest so can be scheduled for monday, 9 Mar orientations they all have.

Be talking to y'all, thanks for the information posted up and hope to meet a few of ya. My handle is "Number 7" (the pack mule from the TV show "Grizzly Adams") couple good Army buddies started calling me that one day when I had an oversized rucksack.

Be safe, Have a Great Day and Better Tomorrow
