And while you're digging up speeches by past presidents, it might be worth your while to examine (a) the opposition party's reaction at the time and, more importantly, (b) the planned follow-up by our proud NEA members at the time. I don't think you'll find much consistency (on either side of the discussion).
As I said before, I don't have a beef with The One™ coming down from Mount Olympus and talking to the kids. I'm sure that it will be rather exciting for some of them. I also don't imagine the kids will remember much of what he said by the following morning anyway. Did you become a pseudo-leftist goofball just because Jimmy Carter told you to? :moon: I doubt it. It's the follow-up that is likely to raise a few eyebrows among the nation's parents.
