Boycott Virginia Petition

Will it work? Who knows, but it's worth a shot!

Stupid on so many levels even though it's because of a budget shortfall. Most of the rest stops in this state were trashy anyways but they were at least something that you could stop and do your business at. Now those stop places are being nearly cut in half..........surprised the Feds allowed this to happen considering trucks have to stop somewhere for the drivers to get their rest. VA banned parking on shoulders and ramps after having several bad truck vs truck crashes over the last 3 years.

Even tho i dont do layovers and haven't at any of the rest areas in Virginia this is far beyond idiotic.. Has anyone been up I-81 at 8 P.M. north of the 64 interchange and not seen any of their rest areas full yet??

Even tho if i wanted to i can stay at Wal-Marts all the time, i think this is complete bull for the rest of my peers to go through some bull like this.. I Guess that major Truck Rest Area on 64 In between Lexington and Clifton Forge/Covington is going to be a big huge pile of dirt, and i guess the one at the 19 mile marker i believe on 81 south is going to be a pile of dirt?? just sad, i truly hate it sometimes when i have to tell people i live in Virginia..

One more thing, if they want to shut down some Rest Areas they should shut down some of those Dumps on I-85.. i'm still trying to figure this one out.. how does the interstate that has the second least amount of miles (Right Behind Interstate 77 i believe and i think Interstate 66 is close) run in the state has 3 North Bound Rest Areas?? 85 is nowhere near as much traveled as 95, 64, and 81... If you going to shut down Rest Areas then fine knock down the facilities but at least let the trucks park when needed!!

VA Closing 18 Rest Areas on July 21 - NBC29

Quote:
The agency says it will try to minimize the impact on truckers by providing an additional 225 truck parking spaces at the 23 rest areas and welcome centers that will remain open.
We don't have the money to keep the other half open with a $2.6 billion budget shortfall but we're going to spend nearly a billion alone in putting in 225 more spaces apparently scattered amongst 23 rest areas. That's only 10 additional spots at each rest area..........yeah that will help with the truckers.

Looks like this shutdown won't last too long, whomever is elected the next govenor wants them re-opened within 60-90 days of the election no matter what it takes. Kaine could careless about VA right now, he is focused on 2012 and a possible run as either a VP candidate or POTUS depending on how Obama's future goes. If neither works out, he's running for Senate.
