I understand your point, Rev. But, I disagree that he SUPPORTED it. I WOULD say "cite the reg," but I KNOW the scripture you refer to.

There are many things in the Bible....written NOT by God OR Jesus.... that I question at times. In a way, one might say it was written by politicians!

But, that doesn't take away from the fact that Jesus taught "fairness" for all people. As he commanded the slave to obey his master.... he ALSO commanded the master to not ABUSE his slave!

At this time.... I believe, Jesus was just learning the philosophy that his FATHER wanted him to teach. But, he WAS a "man" after all. Raised in the society that surrounded him.... and somewhat constrained by what the "locals" could understand or believe.

According to the scripture, Jesus (after his resurrection) took the form of the disadvantaged at least three times to ask for food, shelter, drink and clothes.... and was turned away by some and "cared for" by others.

It is told that, at the judgement, those who did "this for the least of my bretheren" will be admitted to heaven, and those who didn't see or CARE for the needy will NOT.

The reason that it will be "harder for a rich man to enter into heaven than for a camel to pass thru the eye of a needle" is EXACTLY the "conservative" ideology that causes many to say.... "I've got MINE... why can't YOU do the same?"

But, it is important to note that it is not MONEY that is the root of all evil... but the LOVE of money. Just as it is not impossible for a rich man to enter heaven. MANY rich men have entered heaven because of the way they SHARED their wealth with the less advantaged.

Kennedy famously quoted, but didn't coin, the phrase.... to those whom much is given, much is required.

This is born out by the parable of the 10 "talents" as well as other teachings in the Bible.

Yes, Rev... notwithstanding his "acceptance" of the mores of his time, and considering neither of us were there to argue with him.... Jesus WAS a Liberal (with a minor leaning towards conservatism.)

Jesus said, "suffer the children to come unto me." [SCHIP]

Jesus healed the sick, though they had no money to pay for it. [Medicaid]

Jesus ran the "money changers" out of the temple. [regulation]

Jesus fed the masses from the small offerings of the individual. [?]

It was GOD of Abraham (and the OLD TESTAMENT) that waged WAR on those who didn't believe the way his "chosen" did!

But, what could he do? He had a son who turned out to be a friggin LIBERAL! :lol2:

And he had already set up the Slave Trade long before the birth of Jesus!

Kinda makes you wonder why he turned his back on him during his "gig" on the cross, eh?

i'd be down for tejas to become its own once again. hell, i've passed through this state quite a bit within the last week, and i've come to like the san angelo area quite a bit. however, i doubt i'll be living in this country 10 years from now, if it's still around. i've floated the idea of possibly heading up to either british columbia or alberta. i haven't told my parents and relatives yet. it's a serious thought, however.

I love when you post a novel in response to a one sentence post, because they are so easy to negate. Thank you.

That is the reason we must have some taxes. I have never thought that I or anyone should not pay taxes. The problem I have is the amount and type of taxes that we pay. We definitely need to change the way we fund our government. Our government is bloated and out of control. We need a much smaller and responsive government. I don't mean that we need to over throw our government but we do need to make some changes back to the way this country was originally set up. It worked and without an income tax. Prior to the income tax our government was primarily supported by property tax and excise tax. The bigger the government becomes the more taxes will be needed to support it.
I agree with your sentiments....:smokin:

I would love to see the country divided into two nations. I think it would work like this;

Dear Red States:

We're ticked off at the way you've treated California and we've decided we're leaving.

We intend to form our own country and we're taking the other Blue States with us.

In case you aren't aware that includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast.

We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation and especially to the people of the new country of New California.

To sum up briefly:

You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.

We get stem cell research and the best beaches.

We get Elliot Spitzer. You get Ken Lay.

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.

We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.

We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss.

We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition's we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms.

Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro choice and anti war and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight ask your evangelicals. They have kids they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose and they don't care if you don't show pictures of their children's caskets coming home.

We wish you success in Iraq and hope that the WMDs turn up but we're not willing to spend our resources in Bush's Quagmire.

With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80% of the country's fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92% of the nation's fresh fruit, 95% of America's quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90% of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most! of the US low sulfur coal, all
living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.

With the Red States you will have to cope with 88% of all obese Americans and their projected health care costs, 92% of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.

We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only a theory, 53% that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

We're taking the good pot too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico

Veddy, veddy interestink!! While I am very very conservative, (I think self proclaimed dittoheads and neocons are wusses, chickenhawks and shills who should be required to wear pink tutu's 24/7) I find that your post conveys many of my own thoughts. :smokin:

The so called "right" isn't and it has avariciously embraced a dichotomy of ambiguity tantamount to pure oxymoron-ish insanity.

I consider myself to be very liberal & I feel exactly the same way about the so called "left".

I live in what is supposed to be one of the most liberal areas in the country. Not only do I find that I have almost nothing in common with these people, most of them annoy the h@ll out of me.

What's a fellow to do?
