First of all let me say that this is not a Britain bashing post. Heck, I can trace 3/4 of my ancestry back to one or another of the isles. Have always had a lot of respect for the Brits, they have always been willing to back us when very few others would, but Tony Blair is no Thatcher and I think they will cave in to Iran's demands. Hope not but that's the way I feel.

Highly UNLIKELY that they will cave since Iran right now seems to be using the captured troops as bargining chips to get the sanctions agansit them lifted. That plus right now there are not one BUT 2 Nimtz class carrier battle groups in the gulf right now and that right there gives the U.S. and Britian enough striking power to basically wipe off any first strike weapons Iran has in the gulf.
Remember this about a Nimitz class carrier you are allowed to exist when one is in the area not because you can exist. Yes Iran has the largest standing army in the middle east however they are Shities. Saudi Ararbia and Kuwaitt are both Sunni muslim and those 2 groups hate each other. So if Iran enters the war LOOK OUT.

I understand what you are saying but I don't believe that Britain has the political will to use military force in this situation.

Hmm, I think it would probably be a good idea to negotiate the release to the sailors and the 5 Iranian "diplomats" the US hold captive for months now while reaching an agreement on where whose waters end and a bufferzone.
Right now theres enough floating int the gulf to where you can walk straight across it...And then theres supertankers (kinfolk to truckers) that have to dodge these hot headed morons. Im for de-escalation if thats not evident

big difference in the "diplomats" caught in the active combat zone within a foreign country and the brits who were taken hostage on the sea where GPS coordinates have already proven to be in Iraqi waters...
I hope that Tony Blair takes more historical advice from Maggy than from the Goober farmer
