I change my mind alot on weather or not i want to do it. Being away from 2 or 3 weeks might be alittle rough for me. I know that aint nothing to you OTR guys but i always driven local home everynight. Its just i like going out with friends and if i ever want a girlfriend i think it would be best to have a normal job(like a home everynight one). But if i can do it i think i will i have nothing to lose.

Im sure many drivers would kill to be able to make that money and do 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off. That is a hell of a lot of hometime. And 40 grand a year for working 1/2 the year is pretty damn good. Also look at it this way, most likely you are also going to be fed while you are on the boat. So you are making 40 grand a year and for exactly half of the year you arent going to have to spend any money. That would give you the ability to save an invest a bunch. You are young, you could work it right, make some smart investments and with that 40 grand a year job, you could retire at 40 quite wealthy. You mentioned maybe wanting a girfriend in the future....now come on, you know it would be easier to find a good girlfriend making great money instead of actually being home every night.
Personally, I think you should take it.

Good luck with your new career.... I've always found it rather curious that the very next movie that Tom Hanks And Gary Senise did together was "Apollo 13"!! BTW, Macman, BOL2U!!

About Tugboats:
I spent 9 years in the navy, and spent some of my most pleasant days wandering around the old mothball fleet in Philly. But that was 1965. There is a real opportunity working around the tugs. Todays tugs are complicated and to run the really good ones you need years of experience. Going up and down the river is one thing and pulling merchants in and out of port quite another. If you are smart you'll sink your teeth into it and find a career path. Not all tug drivers are gone for long periods. Some just go home at night. Check out the new series tractor tug. It goes backwards as fast as it does forward. These are harbor tugs, though, not river tugs.
