I can shut down even at loading docks...where I may sit for hours. Think of the savings and cleaner air an APU offers.
Is this what you are talking about?

We are using Rig Master. I love this thing. It even has an engine block heater function...which right now...in our sub-zero temps...I'm able to park anywhere and not worry about restart.

Thanks (I think,) for the correction Rev! I REALLY have no idea how much fuel is consumed by idling for 10 -15 hours! I don't do it often, but when I do... I see that the needle barely moves. Lately, I've been "laid over" for about 24 hours once every week, and I can't see enough change in the needle to even CARE about changing my fueling schedule.

I have to question your figures though. I've sat for at least 24 hours before, (every week lately) and the needle says I didn't use even CLOSE to 1/16th of a tank. With 240 gallon tanks (total) .... my last truck held 300.... that would be maybe 15 gallons. O.K. NOW you're talking about $40 dollars worth of fuel maybe. In this case... IdleAire would be cheaper. (Heck a MOTEL would be cheaper! ) Which I thought I SAID was a possibility.

According to YOUR figures, a 24 hour layover would burn between 24 and 36 gallons! I'm NOT seeing that. Maybe, you shoud "tune up" that PETE of yours!!

IMHO, it's NOT about how much fuel is wasted idling all night (or the mere 10 hours some of you break for.) The TWO salient points are that an "idling" engine produces less exhaust than one blasting down the road, or the local power plant and citizen population, and.... IdleAire is a BLIGHT on the industry.... from a parking space point of view!

However.... if I HAD an extra buck or two.... I WOULD invest it in IdleAire stock!!! As I see NO END to this "anti-trucker" trend!!

In my opinion, IdleAire is the GREATEST thing to ever RUIN the trucking industry!!!!

And I REALLY wish you would change your Avatar!!! I'm getting CONSTIPATED trying to hold back my smartazz comments about it!!

Idle-Aire is a front for a much larger company owned by the Bush Family, the Rockefeller's, and Dick Cheney. It is actually managed and staffed by members of the CIA, and it is designed to fulfill three distinct objectives.

1.) To make it so expensive to shut down that a driver will give up on this notion that he or she should be entitled to a 10hr. break after being on duty for 14 hours, and driving 11 hrs.

2.) To drive American drivers out of the trucking industry, so that those seats can be occupied by Pakistani, Hindu, Southern Swahillian, and Mexican Drivers, thus bringing down driver's compensation from an astronomical 35CPM to 40CPM, down to th 8CPM range where it should be.

3.) Of those drivers who do pay to use the Idle-Aire stations, on the surface, they will tell you that they are designed to provide climate control and TV reception.

What they are NOT telling you is that every one of those Idle Aire stations is equipped with a Disgronificating Gaunkulator which intercepts the flow of Disseminating Vernitron Impulses in the driver's brain.

This allows them to monitor every thought that a drivers has, and has ever had. By doing this, they will be able to begin programming the minds of drivers by sending subliminal Satanical messages over the C.B. Radio; especially those big ass radios that Radio Ray loves to ramble on about. (BTW, he is also a mole for the CIA!!)

What you are probably seeing (or not seeing) is the fact that the first half of the tank affects the fuel gauge less than the second half. This is due to the fact that your tank is a cylinder on its side. I could get into the mathematical calculations, but I won't.

Can't disagree with that.

I wouldn't. They are subsidized by the government. Without that government money, they'll go belly up, much like Park N View did in the 90's. It's just a matter of time. The big difference, however, is that unlike the Park N View, the Idle Aire facilities won't be as easy to just drive over the top of.

And I REALLY wish you would change your Avatar!!! I'm getting CONSTIPATED trying to hold back my smartazz comments about it!!
It'll happen, when I figure out something better.

Well, Rev. If you think you have to explain to ME how a fuel gauge moves more quickly on the "less than half" side versus the "more than half" side... you haven't been paying attention! And I DO "get" the cylindrical variance issue. Sort of like how a "shot" of Cognac looks like MORE near the TOP of the bottle versus the middle "fat" part!

But, the point is, for some reason.... my "layovers" usually happen when the needle is JUST above half a tank. When I wake up the next morning (or afternoon) the needle is JUST below half a tank. 24 hours and a mere 2-4% deflection of the needle. Go figure!

Of course, it DOES happen to fall more rapidly AFTER that.... but it does that regardless of whether I stop or not.

Either way, as I said.... I defer to your superior knowledge of such things! But, I sure wish I could see a link to a REAL calculation of fuel expended per hour of idling. JUST for my OWN instruction and learning!

Now.... at the risk of exposing my "newness" to the business..... tell me MORE about this "Park N View." Does that have anything to do with those little "flying saucer" looking things in the parking lots?? What was THAT all about?? (Obviously, I wasn't driving in the 90's!) And don't be so quick to assume that "I" can't DRIVE OVER an IdleAire!!

And DON'T listen to Useless about the avatar!!! His end-Horsement, in itself, makes me question his "proclivities!"

Hey, didn't Willy Wonka make those. I always thought he was an CIA cover agent.
