Now imagine my frustration when I drove out of my way to park in a truckstop and all the spots are taken by trucks parked in the idle aire spots that take up 1 1/2 to 2 times the area normally taken up by one truck. How about a little courtesy!

I hate it when I have to park at the back of the lot because the idleaire is in the prime locations!!

If all the non-idleaire spots are full but there are empty idelaire spots, guess where my truck is going for the night. I definitely agree to leave the idleaire spots open but once the others fill up it's fair game in my opinion. 8)

No, they do not own the parking lot, but they do pay to lease the space, and they do pay a percentage of their gross revenue to the companies who operate the truckstops; so, if a driver is occupying an Idle Aire space, but not paying to use it, then it is also revenue that the truck stop will miss out on.

As for me?? I never used Idle Air; the idea of having to back out of one of those slots with so much blind area just bothered me too much!!

I don't know. One of the reasons that I drove at night was because I could make better time, and I never had to fight for parking space in a truck stop. Idle Air was still very new when I came off of the road, though; not too many of them around.

As long as you dont idle your truck you can stay parked there and they cant make you move because the parking lot is owned by truck stop. When idle aire takes up all those spots that are mostly empty, why cant a tired driver who needs a spot when there are no regular spots available.

Being local, I haven't had the chance to visit an Idle Air TS but, you cannot use the services unless you pay for them, right?? If I have no choice, that spot is going to be taken whether I'm paying or not. Maybe DOT needs to get on the ball and help the drivers out some on this issue. Trucks already have a major problem of finding places to legally park for their 10 hour break. Instead of taking parking away, those that are taken away should be replaced and DOT needs to be the one mandating it. Prolly won't ever happen but it would be nice if they could come to the defense of trucks and maybe supercede where a truck can park for their 10 hour break. I understand the Idle Air side of the defense, it's just unfair to everyone involved and something needs to be done for the good of the regular joe's who need a place to park but don't want Idle Air.

True, but if Idle air is LEASING the space from the truck stop, then they WOULD have some element of control over it.

Look at it this way; I own commercial real estate properties that I lease to other companies and businesses; do those companies have some controll over the property that they lease from me??

Sure they do!!
