If the pay and beni's are there, I'd drive and Isuzu! I think people have their priorities a bit mixed up. You are in this for the money and for a career.

What?
PBbbbbfffttt...if you wanna make money...go into construction. Build muscle...sleep in your own bed....party every night.

Fozzy...you know better than this. He is a Rookie...looking at OTR. That's not sleeping in his own bed every night. That is driving 500-800 miles in a day...3000+ miles in a week. Living out of the Truck.

The job regardless of whether you run regional or go long haul, is much harder physically, than people tend to believe.

As far as any priorities listed on this thread...I think we all have been steering him to the Volvo. Number one priority is YOU. 8)
Volvo 780 is tops for comfort and manuverability. Pete 379 has more appeal, and still comfortable (although not as comfortable), but to a rookie...IMHO...no. Tougher to manuver.

The Freightliner....good pick for a rookie. Good comfort...easy to manuver, and light. (more forgiving on heavy loads)
I'm not a fan of the Century though. Love the Classic XL, and KW W900. Too bad they don't give those options. :?

379 please, I learnt on one for one thing, I like the coolness factor for another.

I'd like to see a rookie fresh out of training try to back, and manouver around a tight spot in a 379 and he might change his mind

He will look all cool, driving his big 379 with his seat pushed back all the way and seat all the way on the floor, until the first time he runs over a car because he can't see it

why do you think you see so many Petes and KWs with smashed up bumpers

Er, I've never seen a Pete or KW with a pushed in bumper from anything other than hitting a moose or buffalo. But that is not exclusive to those truck brands.

I learned on a Classic XL with a 53' reefer.
But I took to it like a Hog to mud.

My first Truck driving job was in a Volvo 770. So sweet...I was like a Hog in Slop.

What I imagine LadyNorthStar's front porch is like. :P

I didn't say that everybody who drives one has that problem, I know a guy who has a pete and his bumper is always bent because he is always hitting cars and things because he thinks he is cool because he sits on the floor in his lowrider seat and can't see where he is going

By the way I own a KW and sometimes when I have to go to a place that is very tight I wish I had a Volvo,

I'm just saying that a pete is not always a practical truck depending on
what you are doing

personally I'm not a big fan of the looks of the Pete's and I would never buy one
