Which truck would you choose?
If you were a company driver and had your choice, which would you prefer?
Peterbilt 379
Peterbult 387
Freightliner Century
Volvo 770/780

Volvo 780 - tons of space, tight turning, quiet, smooth ride - I miss having that truck - just don't miss it enough to go back to USXpress

I guess these are your only choices? No KW?
For comfort the Volvo. It's a heavy Tractor though. If you haul reefer...you will work your buns off balancing your load. Very good manuverability...make sure you have a Detroit 500 Hp mill...13 speed...and no restrictions.
For sheer coolness and Peter envy...the 379. Forget the 387 bubble. No one cares. Big Cat....sit low....enjoy. 8)
Freightliner...good choice for tight small docks...(East Coast).
Light Tractor...you will get by okay with a new one. The older they get...the more free coffee, and time off you will have at repair shops. You will be annoyed to death with little things like rattles, wind whistling, unidentifiable noises, a computerized dash that thinks you don't know WTF you are doing most of the time. Did I mention...Ugly?
Stomp your foot and demand a Kenworth.

Straight up,my favorite is the 379X! I like the look of a nice black Pete all lit up and chromed at night with a nice stainless reefer in tow. Its a classic look...and it has to have tall straight pipes with a growl (Damn you DPFs  ) - Cat C15 with 13 or 18 spds
In real tho I think the Volvo is a better unit as far as the ergonimics and life of the driver is concerned...you have to remember that this isnt just your office, its your best friend! And the availability of the new I-shift has me rethinking the whole auto-shift idea (I was dead against autos...they were for pansies  !)
I prefer the Coronado to the Century...if you are comparing the 379s and 387, they are on par with the Coronado. Other than that the only thing I like about F-liner is the ride.
But what do I know I drive a fricken IH 9400i

The 770. I've driven all of them but the 387 (although I have driven a T-2000), and I prefer the space to anything. Luckily the Volvo was comfortable as well as spacious. Plus it could maneuver as well as a Century. Bike lane, two lanes, turn lane, two lanes, bike lane; it could do a u-turn with a 53 foot reefer behind it in that space. Shhhh. Don't tell anyone I did that... :P

Thanks for the input all. Those 379's do look sweet but comfort is a huge plus. I don't know if I'll have a choice but those are the trucks May runs. We'll see what happens. Gotta get through orientation & OTR training first.
