Default Holidays in truck stops/ministry questions

Reading this forum and driving by our local Flying J today has got me thinking about asking you fine people here a question.
I know there are truckers that end up spending the holidays basically stuck in a truck stop due to shippers/receivers being closed and being too far from home.
I was thinking about making homemade cookies/treats and taking them to the truck stop on holidays (or maybe sometimes just to) and handing them out to the truckers there. However I found myself unsure how to go about doing that.
I am VERY hesitant to just go approaching trucks that are parked. I look nothing like a lot lizard (more like a Mennonite/Amish) and would likely have 3 children in tow, but I'm still uncomfortable just knocking on doors.
My question to the drivers here is would this be something that you as a truck driver would appreciate? If so do you have any ideas on how to go about it and not offend/compromise our safety or anyone elses? Thanks for any ideas!

Very thoughtful of you. I can understand your apprehension of going from truck to truck. So what is you set up a little card table or something outside the building? Of course you would need to clear it through the T/S management first.

Walking out amoungst the Trucks can be dangerous. Actually...around the pumps is the most dangerous area....so keep this in mind. You and your children should not be out there....just plain and simple.

Your idea is thoughtful.
Besides the good advice already given. I would just ad...you will find half the drivers outgoing and receptive. Be prepared to realize the other half. Some will be on the scarry side...rough, tired, busy, lone-wolfer's, etc. etc. and mostly unintendtional for the lack of social skills. They are road weary and stressed. This job can take it's toll on anyone.

All good people...if you know and understand them. I wish this would be at all TS on Holidays. Sure would be nice to look forward to. I've been on duty on Holidays myself....mainly because I am single with no children. I generally take the loads so the family guy's can be home. I'll pass on the egg nog though...

Your idea is a very generous one. I would not, however, go truck to truck, if for no other reason that you might end up waking a driver who really needs sleep.

As mentioned, talk to the truck stop management about setting up a table somewhere. You can also see if the truckstop has a chapel and/or offers services and who does those and talk to the minister.

[tinfoil hat]No disrespect intended, but if someone offered me homemade cookies at a truck stop, I would decline. From the drivers standpoint, they don't know you, they don't know what your intentions are, and they don't know what is in the cookies. Just sayin'.[/tinfoil hat]

R-e-v.....Rev-Rev-Rev.... :?

We know you.

You'd interagate them...looking for some Freudian slip in their conversation, picking apart the interpratation of certain choice of words or phrases...with the jaundiced eye of a crafty therapist.

Furthermore...you study body language...for any minor inflection...a tell-tale.

If satisfied...you'd still question with a trained horse ear...aimed back as you walk off eating the cookie...listening for the restrained snicker and quiet uncontrollable chuckle.

...of course this coming from a guy who invokes the 5 second rule on food that falls on the floor.
