You will see differently in a few months. The in-fighting has already started. And, if you look carefully at Lieberman's new stance on the Democrats, you will see that changes are afoot for them as well.

I agree it will be good for the GOP to get back to some fundamentals, while eating some crow, but I'm NOT sure it will necessarily help them in 2008 (as was said on another thread.)

Actually, 2 years of Democrats in the House and Senate would be the BEST thing for the GOP in 2008.

This election was, more than anything else, a referendum on the GOP and BUSH in particular. If HE stonewalls everything THEY want to accomplish, I think the 08 election will be even MORE of a referendum on HIM and the party in general.

I couldn't agree LESS.
This election was won because the Democrats energized their voting block better than the Republicans did. The GOP had gotten complacent over the past 12 years, and started to act more and more like Democrats, with their spending bills.
As far as the war is concerned, you will see little over the next 2 years that will help the Democrats. Expect to see more terrorism overseas (directed at the U.S.). In fact, Hamas has come out TODAY saying they are going after United States' interests overseas. I am sure that Osama is quite happy with the results of the election, as the attention will be taken away from him when the in-fighting amongst the Congress begins.

Remember that MOST elections are won with the help, and almost entirely BECAUSE of, the independant or "swing" voters.

Not as much as you think. Elections are won by energizing your voting block. There are not as many "swing" voters as the media makes you believe there is.

Bush just BARELY eeked out the presidency with their help both times.

You must have watched a different election in 2004. Bush won over Kerry by a decent margin, and obtained more than 50% of the vote - something Clinton never did.
