However, ALL chemical tank companies pay their drivers for their time and work (some obviously better than others) in addition to mileage pay. How many dry van and refrigerated carriers that aren't either Union and/or LTL can you say that about in North America? Just a simple question... :wink:

If it keeps getting worse and doesn't improve, I have no problem trading $0 a week for $800+ a week at one of those scumbag outfits if necessary. Been there, done that, and damn sure know how to do it again if need be to take care of my family and obligations!

Its because huge companies like Dow are TELLING QC what to bid. Its why Maine lost the account, AKA the life blood of that terminal. Something is wrong when Superior can deliver a ****load more product in one pop then QC but they still get the account. Hmmmmm...

I thought DOW was lost because the first load in the contract was screwed up - wrong product, connected to the wrong pipe. Something like that.

Exactly brother! I'll admit that we're keeping steady at Kankakee but nothing near as good as it could be or rather was a few months ago. Though lately here they've been keeping me busy doing local deliveries next door at Cognis if nothing else. But it would be nice to get back out to the open road again soon on a consistent basis. Though like I said earlier, if things keep going downhill I'll be back to the old routine quickly. Believe me when I say I don't want to, but if that's what it takes then I will do what I must. I love time off and all, but I love making $$$ too!

Just sucks when I personally know of three individuals (two are very close friends) who are all still plugging away, business as usual with one particular cheap, Florida-based company (that I could end up at). All are averaging consistent 3,000+ miles a week. Two running primarily short to medium length Midwest milk loads while the third runs the long-distance stuff just as I did at Aartman years ago. Also, all three are very seasoned, experienced drivers who take the bad with the good, they go where the freight goes, and don't b**** and moan when something doesn't go their way.

What's funny is that with as many drivers we seem to have on the verge of leaving here because of little to no work, I still run across knuckleheads that will complain about getting a load all because it's going to a less-than-desirable destination! Hell I say give it to the guy who will be thankful to get it and not gripe!!! If someone doesn't wanna take a load somewhere because of the destination then fine, send their sorry azz home and stay put a few days and see how much stuff gets paid then...

......Sorry my young son....I could not but help it.....the last post that is..... while one can not argue with your twisted logic....because there just happens to be some validity to it....and yes one must do what one must do to cover and protect one's most precious.....

Lets all face it....the economy "sucks" and things may get worse before they get better, and while I am personally disinclined to make a change in employers....I can truly understand that anyone who has a firm handle on a job that will actually produce an income....will move that way. For "tanker guys and gals"....if all else fails.....food grade tankers offer a safe haven....if for no other reason than the fact that "food" continues to be consumed, while base chemicals are not....

One must protect their home and family, above and beyond all else!
