Default Truck sounds flat no guts to it

I have an Isuzu FRR horse truck.
The other day when out it seemed to lose power going up the slightest incline, when I changed down a gear insted of getting a higher rev, it sounded really flat, and didn't respond, then on the way home on the flat road it didnt sound right, then coming up our steep hill thought we were going to have to get out and walk, just didnt have any guts to it at all.
Got home and got out and smelt a burning smell like I'd driven with hand brake on, which I didn't of course.
Hubby reckons becasue it get used intermittently the diesel is dirty, but hes not a mechanics backside!! anyhow forgot to tell him about the burny smell too. Have checked for stone etc under brake pedal and nothing there, so does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my beloved truck??

Had an Isuzu water truck at a construction co. i worked for years ago. It had a similar problem. Turned out the intake hose for the turbo was getting sucked flat under load. replaced with a piece of pvc pipe and no more problem.
