I have the article at work. I will see if his name is in it and if so let you know. He overheated his brakes and then drove by three run away lanes and lost it on one of the last corners before the bottom. It was a single vehicle crash. I don't know much more than that.

|
CAT isn't using EGR at all... they will be using CGI (clean gas induction) in '07.
The difference is where the gases are routed from. The "dirty" gases from the EGR engines are the cause of most of the EGR valve failures.
|
EGR is EGR. Because they pull it from a different spot doesn't mean they can make up a new name. But you are right, it will be cleaner.
The biggest difference will be soot. The only other "harmful" item would be sulphuric acid, and that's all but eliminated with the new fuel.

I agree as well, but to clarify... 1. Cat's acert engines ARE compliant (only "bridge engines" paid fines). Also, CAT's DPF is sericeable as well.

Then why was there a recall for the post-bridge engines involving reducing nox? Something about a computer reflash?

I have the "post-bridge" engine, never heard of any "recals"!
As of to "reflashing" computer, they do it every time, when you service it, and update is avable. Mostly about performance, didn't say nothing, about "nox"!

No, that's not a reflash, that's pulling the codes etc..
reflashing means changing the fuel maps etc..

I had a 2000 ISX and for the first two years (starting with the first trip) it was in a Cummins shop every week for one thing or another.Lost a small fortune in down time every week.Oh yea 2 inframes and a crate motor they would only back up for a year no more.A friend of mine has an EGR version and his is no better,I would not recomend this motor to anyone.
My '05 Cat. has had the head crack at 161,000 and I was down for a couple days out of almost two years I would say I am way ahead of the Cum'apart.

Name an engine that doesn't get reflashed regularly? Reflashing ECMs today is more common than changing oil.
The truck electorics have followed the automotive world, where reflashing is done to repair computer glitches and software conflicts... quite common and not usually of any concern to the operator.
Have you ever installed a windows security update on your home computer? How about a patch for a computer glitch you've never even noticed? Same difference.

You guys are confusing "reflashing" with "reading codes". The two are totally different.
CAT had to go in and redo some fuel maps, due to not complying with NOX standards.
