gosh. a few pages ago everything was fine, and now caos.
To buzz... Answer this question for me. What other company is "better" per say for a total newb getting his CDL, and earning a decent buck, and getting home on the weekend? I found myself being very happy that i chose TMC. So far i have run my a$$ off, and worked hard. When i'm in the truck (unless i get a 34 reset) all i think about is work. That's what i'm here to do, b/c i have plans, and expectations that have to be met. It's not always easy. Rolling up tarps in 5 below 0 in Gouvenour, NY than loading in Deposit, NY for 3.5 hours in snow/rain and freezing temps, on a friday night at 11Pm. but than again, right now i'm in alabama getting my 34 reset, and it's 77 outside, all the windows down, and all the vents open. Y am i happy? b/c i just got my 28% this thursday, and now i can make better money. my 13 week avarage is $770. and i was home every weekend except this one. Flatbedding is hard work. I lost about 15-20 lbs since i started, and bulked up. No more unopenable Jars for me. lol... with my 28% the first load i took is going to pay me $440, and I already have a preload for monday that s going to pay me another $230 or so. Now where ion earth else am i going to make this ammount of money AS A NOOB totally new to the industry and all... Than again, i like fisical weork, and do my best tro be efficient. Remember the GAMEPLAN they were talking abaout in orientation? And tell me this. Y did I meet a Wheelmaster, who was with the Company for 17 years. yup, his Q had a 17!!! in it. I'm sorry that you feel there is better outfits, and there may be if you're EXPERIENCED. but for me as a noob, starting off, where am I gonna avarage $790 net to my check since week one, and i'm on the end of my 6th week? c'mon... TMC has it's little "bumps" like the prepass, bunkwarmer, and camera. BUT say you go to a company that doesn't do that, and get an avarage of $600 net on a check every week (remember i'm talking NOOBS here, not experienced) thene who are you better off with? I always look at the big picture. Some weeks it's gonna suck a$$, soma weeks it's gonna rock. the avarage,a nd the big picture makes the bunkwarmert and camera be well worth it. Also, a big effect on how you do, is family at home, and your Fleet manager. If you start off on the right foot woth your fleet manager, and you're cool with him, you're gonna make some serious money. I guarantee you that. Again, all i'm saying is, that for a total noob starting off, It's one of the best companies, and I did my research just like fred. Took me a couple months to get in here. if i was experienced before, had more than 2 yrs experience, than i could've had more choices. I worked hard to get my shiney truck, and i'm going to keep it. As long as they pay me what i expect, everything will be ok. I make more than i used to make, and i'm a step closer to fulfilling my dreams day by day. It didn't work out for you, i'm sorry, butis that a reason to scare off ppl, that may like TMC after they get into the truck? cheers BND |
I dont work at tmc, but my husband does.
While he does think they are a good fit for new drivers, he isnt a new driver. He also doesn't think what either a top pay or average driver at TMC is enough for him. He feels he is making newbie wages. He averages more than FRed does per week. As I said in my post to each their own. TMC is considered a good company by most accounts. He made more at Paul and Son's trucking in Port Huron, than at TMC. So he gave TMC the time he felt was needed to make sure he isn't just upset at the 2 to 3 bad loads (low paying) per week that he gets. But he wont pull even one load a week that pays .26/ per mile. Thats his choice. He doesnt have any problems with the company policies, just alot of the loads. He thinks near the end of the week after he is at a pay leavel that tmc tries to help the lower end guys out to bring the rev up for trucks not meeting TMC min. week earning. True or not... no matter. He gets very low paying loads at the end of the week. So organizational skills need to at the least improve. He wont leave till he takesdelivery on his new truck but he has no interest in staying with TMC. He also is very much in the BOSS type mentality, He was a city supervisor here and drove part time during those years. He drove full time as a young man, drove part time while with the city. Retired from the city and now wants to drive full time. So maybe he cant work for anyone. He thinks his FM is doing the best he can with what his fleet cordinator gives him to work with. He doesn't think that the back up people like the cordinator are doing a good job. Wrong info all the time, wrong addresses, wrong trailer numbers, loads that were canceled or picked up the day prior. ect. That kind of stuff drives him nuts. But new drivers have to start somewhere, and at someplace pay wise. But for Jamie, TMC isn't a good fit. Not that it isnt a good company just not for him. He will leave in good terms in a few weeks. And will go on to work O/O. To each their own. Ps. Fred keep up the good work, when you work some place where it is a good fit you should be proud and you do a lot of good for drivers looking at companies with a lot of questions. I have been at UPS for 22 yrs, toot their horn every chance I get. Lots of people don't like them though. Just means they are not looking for what UPS offers. They need less or more. UPS is still a great place, Of course, the day.. the minute.. I have 30yrs I am so gone. Unless teamsters sees fit to give us back 25 and out. |
BoyNextDoor,
What other company is "better" per say for a total newb getting his CDL, and earning a decent buck, and getting home on the weekend? I am glad that you feel that you have made a good choice. But you have to be aware that your experience is limited to only have worked for one company. I am interested in how you feel that TMC actually calculates rates based on Practical miles while they tell you that milage is based on HHG short miles? Or that you only get paid $10 for tarp pay while the company charges $80. Don't you think that it would be more fair if they paid the driver a % of the tarp fee? If you would like a copy of the Rate and Tarif guide send me a PM with your email address and I will be glad to send it to you. I was very happy with my Fleet Manager. He was more then fair. I never had an issue of having tolls authorized. He actually went so far to bend my numbers so my % was increased to 29% although my snapshot revenue was only $628. He told me that since I was willing to work and stay out he was trying to do all he could to help. How would you feel if you picked up a load and found the BOL stated a rate higher then what you were told by TMC like I did? If you are happy working in a situation where you are being decieved then more power to you. I will not deny that TMC does have a very small % of drivers that have been there for a long time. Talking with TMC drivers that have been there for several years, it was almost unanimous that work conditions began to deteirorate when Tim started to run the company. They also said that thing began to get really bad starting last October. But there are a large ammount of people that find a comfort zone and are content with their place in life. Good luck to you, and I hope that that everything contiues to work for you. |
alright, enough of this whinning crap already. you stated your issues and they were responded to. stop the arguement and if you still have a complaint or the itch to complain, then go start a new thread. this thread has been running fairly well until the last 24 hours when we had 3+ pages of crying and arguing. so go to your corners or start a new thread. people cant ask questions with this going on. some people are happy at their job and some people are unhappy at the job, thats life. move on already.

There's an awful lot of people on here that seem to think TMC is a great place to work, but the rating page for TMC says otherwise. Why is that?

Mudflap,
Actually none of my issues or questions have been addressed other then resorting to trying to attack my personal character for offering an opposing view. The answers to my questions and issues have been that I have not worked for TMC, I am a loser, whiner, slacker, and every other type of derogaotry comment. I have addressed real issues that a new driver would face working at TMC brought from the perspective of an experienced driver in the industry. If the self appointed representatives of the company can not defend the company and the issues that they place upon its employees any other way then to launch personal attacks, what does that say of the company as a whole? I am only providing another side. As Snake_Ize said, this is not the " I love TMC " thread. No where have I read that posters are not allowed to engage in open debate with opposing points of view. Maybe you and your fellow TMC faithful should go and start an entire new board dedicated to all of the good things about TMC as stated from your own personal experiences. Until then, I will continue to exercise my right of free speach. I have not been the only poster in the past few days that have described the same issues. So please if you do not wish to debate and answer the questions in an appropriate manner please do not respond. If on the other hand you are willing to openly discuss the things that myself and others have brought up please do so. |

I agree it would be a great first company for a new guy who wants to make good money and get home weekends. I did the same thing only it was a smaller flatbed co. here in OH. You have the right attitude. I also believe Buzzdog is justified in his opinion. He's not the first one to not buy into the TMC way. There have been other detractors on here, some of whom started out as big TMC promoters. If you're a new guy then your options are limited and you can do alot worse than TMC. Once you have experience there are other good flatbed companies out there who also pay well, some are smaller and you might not even know who they are, you have to look around. Black and Chrome may not be for everyone. |

A 12 year old can vote the same as a 50 year old. TMC has only been LISTED for a couple of months on CAD and only HAS a couple of votes. (Probably from the same morons who are bitchin' on here now) If anyone HONESTLY believes Swift and Schneider are better than TMC, by all means PLEASE GO WORK FOR THEM as I'd HATE to think of you in a TMC truck. |
