I took my physical on Monday, I was worried about my Blood Pressure, turned out it was good. The Doctor found an Umbilical Hernia, I knew my belly button was sticking out, I just didn't know it was a problem. Of course I was sent back home to get it fixed. I already have an appointment with a Surgeon on Thursday to discuss my options. Once surgery is completed it takes two to four weeks to recover. I was told to come back once I do. Disappointing for sure, but I glad the problem was identified before I lifted that 120 lbs tarp and split my gut open. Has anyone else dealt with an Umbilical Hernial before?

Good luck on the surgery Terrylamar and also Fred, wer'nt you getting some surgery also? Hope all is well. My Husband also said I got part of my post wrong, he was with a trainer for 4 weeks, not 6.

san415, yes I was. I saw the surgeon today and he said that I was responding well to the antibiotics and ointment and would NOT need surgery!!! The yucky stuff was not moving towards my brain thank goodness.
Yipeee!!! thanks for asking, Fred |
Thanks for your concern. From what I read it is a small incision and a couple of stitches under local anesthesia. There is small recurrence.

You'll do all the required paper work, drug screen, useless DOT physical, they'll want you to join the "Freeway Finks" or "Highway Watch". You'll briefly touch on Qualcomm systems, etc etc etc.
If you go with TMC just be prepared to work hard but the company does put an emphasis on safety, and they wont leave you stranded if you need them. Just their South Carolina orientation is not that great, I cant speak for Iowa. It's max 6 weeks with a trainer. The new guy doesn't do all the work. The only time the trainee is supposed to do "all the work" is the 5th - 6th week. In essence, that is to prepare them for working by themselves. However, most trainers won't sit in the truck while the trainee does the securement, it would cut into their paycheck and it's damn boring. I will agree that the hotel in SC is the pits. Quit making stuff up. As I said, I was only speaking of the South Carolina center, not any other training facility so I never made any assumptions about any other training center. Any information or personal experiences I passed on, came directly from TMC South Carolina and not some recruiter. It could have been a brainfart on part of the instructor. What ticked me off about TMC and this didnt happen to me personally was 2 students went all the way through orientation only to find out that the nearest trainer/driver was 500 miles from their location. These guys spent two weeks going through orientation, TMC had all the information, and no one bothered to let these guys know that they wouldnt be driving for TMC, what a waste of time when these guys could have gone to another company with a Trainer closer to their home. Should be something to check with a recruiter , with ANY company ahead of time. |
you know i was up in dsm last week and the guy that i was rooming with lived in the u/p of Michigan and his trainer lived in Wisconsin. training said that it was 200 miles and it turned out that it was air miles straight across the lake. in reality it was more like 500 miles. he said something and got a trainer 20 miles from his house.

I am currently in Orienetation at Des Moines Iowa. We started with 4 days of paperwork, then 3 days of load securement class, followed by 4 days of driving. Friday is just loose ends day and we should be leaving sometime on Friday to go home and wait for a trainer.
Training is six weeks. For us it may be shortened to only five weeks due to holidays if we and the trainer feel comfortable. My recruiter Matt (TMC on here) was very upfront with the fact that there was no really nearby trainer. |
