I drive a transfer truck and haul equipment for a small paving/excavating company here in N. California. I'm in no hurry to leave, but I don't want to drive forever either. Owners are easy going and foreman is easy to work for. Pay is ok, benes are expensive, and some of the other perks that we had when I started are becoming few and far between. When the chance arises I want to go back to school and get into a career with future and some type of retirement package.

Sounds like me and you are in the same boat. I dont have any retirement and it sucks. I am trying to get into the local municipal police academy. I have to take all the tests to get in on Nov.7th. If i pass then i will start in Jan. It cost 4,100.00. But in the long run that 4100 will be well worth it.

AIM Dedicated Logistics; Girard,OH. That is what the "Operated By" says on the door of my tractor.

Dedicated to the Clover Hill Foods account in Bridgeville,PA.

Why do I work here? Good pay, good benifits, good equipment, EXCELLENT SAFETY score(27) and nice small company(both AIM and clover Hill. Both are still family owned). 324 drivers nationwide(AIM).

I work for YRC. Formerly Roadway Express driver. I leave my house in the U.P. on Sun. at 23:00 and drive to our terminal in Chicago Hts. Il. When I arrive I am shuttled to a hotel and sleep all day. Usually around 18:00 I receive a two hr. work call and head back home . My week ends usually Sat. morning or sometimes Sat. afternoon depending if I have to make a stop in between and traffic in the windy and I don't always get out on Fri. nite. I'm here because the money is good and the benefits for my family are great. Also I enjoy being home with my family which happens every other day and every weekend. Above all else I am a Proud member of the I.B.T. I've been here 7 years and when my kids are all grown up and on there own the wife and I plan to hit the highway together so that she can see some of the things I used to tell her about over the pay phones 13 years ago when I started driving trk.

I drive for Crete carrier, I run a dedicated account in NY and haul inter warehouse transfer loads. I think I've got it pretty good here I'd like a big fat raise but I'm not complaining about the pay. Been doing this run almost 2 years and been at Crete going on 3. I stay in NY and the warehouse I drop at is very close to my house. Its 50% drop and hook, I unload using a power pallet jack and loads ave about 20k I got a sleeper but don't use it, how much more can I ask for? Oh yeah I don't talk to dispatch for months at a time!!

Good luck on the tests.

With work being dead now for almost two years out of the 3.5 that I've worked here, I've got to find a way to get into something else, because from the looks of things it's going to be a LONG ride before construction is back up to decent level to where workers can make a decent living.
