Default American Logistics and/or Midwest Motor Express?

These are 2 completely unrelated companies other than they both seem to run in my neck of the woods, Madison, WI.

So I was wondering if anyone here had anything to say about these guys.

American Logistics Services

Midwest Motor Express, Inc.

MME is definitely LTL like Roadway or someone, I'd be less interested there. However, I'm mostly looking for more home time and a little variety in my work, so maybe the exercise of working the dock may be something I can use.

American Logistics occasionally advertises a "regional" run in the Madison area, including IL, WI, IA, and MN. For reasons unknown even to me, that doesn't seem like an all bad thing. But I have very little info about the actual job, including pay, so I'm not too optimistic.

I currently run mail to Detroit via Milwaukee. It's total gravy and the pay is great. So at this point I'm very lightly shopping for an offer I can't refuse. However, my current company is based in Kalamazoo, and I have no options for any other routes. At the risk of looking a gift horse in the mouth, I definitely know I can't do this forever. Also, there's been talk back and forth about layoffs and unionization, both of which suggest this may not be the most stable place to work. Don't get me wrong, they seem to have their stuff together, but they are at the mercy of the USPS, and now the AFL-CIO is starting to squeeze from the other side. Even so, I feel pretty safe with my run. However, I feel compelled to keep my options open.

I'm still wondering if I should have taken that opening at Safety Kleen when they called last year...

Howdy,

I worked for MME for nine months. It wasn't a hard job and the money was good. I just got tired of working nights and living the life of a vampire.

I ran linehaul from Madison to Cedar Rapids, IA and also Madison to Minn/ St Paul area.

On the linehaul they pay you by the mile plus hourly for the rest of the time.

Cedar Rapids run was more dock time. Minn/ St Paul run was more drop and hook, but you made more money on that run.

The insurance for a single was company paid. All in all it was a good job, I was just burnt out working nights.

Their p & d drivers are paid hourly and make overtime after 40 I believe. They run southern Wisconsin and maybe up to La Crosse now. I maybe would have tried p & d but it never opened up while I was there.

I'm running regional/ otr for a company out of De Forest. So, if you are giving up a gravy job let me know!!!!!

I drive for Fleetmaster Express. They are out of Roanoke, VA.

We run about 7 otr trucks and 3 locals. We haul for the Ball Corp in De Forest.

MME is not union.

I'm guessing you drive for B & B.

You guess good.
But don't tell no one!
Really, the work is just fine. But I like a little variety, and based on what I do, this is the only run I can get with this company.

I'm just keeping my ear to the ground now.

I almost answered an ad for B & B. Just never got around to it.

I can't make any changes for about a month, but it I have to stay in trucking I think I will look at Knight.

Talked to two of their drivers and both were very happy and had been with the company at least three years.

This is definitely a good job for the time being.
I'm looking to get closer to home than further out. Figure if I wanna do OTR I'd go back to Schneider. seriously, they weren't bad.

But for the time I think I too have to stay put, probably for at least 5-10 months.

I drove for Schneider also, from August 2003 until February of 2005.

I almost went back last summer but getting home every weekend was good at that time, still is, but this company is now wanting us to stay out longer and at home less.

I'm just not sure I want to run all that northeast again if I would go back to Schneider.

This week I haven't been out of Wisconsin. My son graduates Sunday and they said if I went out further they might not be able to guarantee being home then. So. I appreciate that they did that for me.

So this comapny can be decent at times.
