Well Schneider is definately out of the picture now! I looked at all the posts here and decided to give them another chance. I called the recruiter and she was as much of a pain in my hide as she was the last time, but I maintained the fact that surely she could not be this rude all the time and maybe I have just caught her on two bad occasions.

I told her I would be willing to run OTR until after I got moved and then get put on a list for something else. Well the first thing she tells me is that when I am working for them they dont care where I am at or when my hometime is scheduled if they have a run for me I am going to run it and Ill get home when they want to send me, no matter if its on the day im supposed to be home and 10 miles away! I said well I guess I could work with that as long as I was getting enough miles to keep me busy. Next she proceeds to tell me that I will not be able to move to Indy until I have worked for them 6 months. I asked if that meant I just had to run OTR for 6 months she cuts me off and tells me NO you cannot move from IL to IN for 6 months.

Well I kindly thanked Kathy for her time and told her that I would never look at Schneider again! I also told her I would never work for ANY company that dictated when I could move to another state. I could see it if I was to move say from IL-FL or some other hole in the wall state thats hard to get hired from, but my god its just 1 state over!

So Schneider heres a big :moon: for you. I would go ahead and make the move now but you have to have employment before you can get an apartment. This is the only copmpany I have heard of that is doing this and frankly most companies I talk to are actually happy when I tell them I am moving to Indy for better hometime.

You get bad people wherever you go. I wouldnt run for a company that told me such crap either. However, I think that you should talk to another recruiter first. She just sounds like a wingnut. I've never heard of a company that told someone stuff like that. In the USA you can move wherever you want. As for days off, that sounds like bull to me. My recruiter told me everything out front and told me to go to the terminal that I would be out of and ask the manager about stuff before I was hired. The only thing different from what he told me was during orientation on Wed someone came in and pulled me from class. My recruiter had told me I would start at .37/mile and it was actually .365. They wanted me to know that right up front. My recruiter got messed up. His son was deploying to Iraq at the time and he had a stroke (he's ok) and that wasnt enough to throw me so that was ok.

Usually recruiters will tell you everything under the sun and promise you whatever it takes. I'm surprised that she didnt tell you that the company would pay for you to move to Hawaii if thats what it took to get you on.

Hey bogle. I saw your references to Indy a couple of times in this post. I drive local over here. If there is anything that I might be able to help you with, drop me a line. G

Schneider Bulk told me you put your time off requests in a month in advance and that they get you home. Was like 10-12 days out and 3 at home.

Are they still shaving your head for the pre-employment? Kind of bugs me that they aren't following FMCSA for pre-employment. I guess they can do whatever they want for a "pre-employment" but wouldn't you still have to whizz in a cup for them to keep everything kosher with DOT? Frankly, I don't care if they want a stool sample, but they sure seem nosey!

Seems like a lot of BS to go through for a job. I may just suck on the government teat for 9-12 months, and do the refresher thing next spring. It's good to have options

Belpre, Thats what im ulimately wanting to do. Im just looking at companies that have terminals in Indy or right around Indy that have local or shuttle drivers. Mainly the only reason I was looking at schneider and celadon even werner for that matter is because they have that and I can hire out of IL work the OTR or Regional for a couple months and get my name on a list that will get me into one of those positions eventually. Or allow me to put in for an office position. Heck Im not too picky just looking for something that will eventually let me get home everynight or at least a few times a week and off on most weekends. I know this stuff is out there just a matter of waiting till the right opportunity opens up. This is mainly just a move we have been looking at for several years and now have the opportunity to put it in motion. Thanks for the offer for help. I appreciate it.

Tom

I'm at SNI right now...my recruiter was terrific...very truthful (go figure!). I had been out of trucking for a bit over three years when I called, and she was up front with me about my chances and what I'd have to do to be hired as an experienced driver.

On the other hand, I contacted Marten not too long ago to see what kind of opportunities they might have as I was considering trying to get home more often. I e-mailed recruiting with two very specific, brief questions, the answers to which would determine for me as well as them if it was worth filling out the long form app. I got a very terse "If you're interested, you can fill out the application" and gave me the link.

I replied that the reason for my initial e-mail was to determine the value of doing the full app, and that my question had now been answered.

I have no desire to make a change, but if and when I do, Marten won't be on the list.

I really am surprised by the response on this one. I really appreciate everyones input here. It seems that schneider is well represented here and Yall have had great luck with them. Unfortunatly I wasnt maybe it was the recruiter and maybe it was me being too picky. I dunno. But Im threw trying to figure things out and I have listened to the masses and now I have made my decision.

Threw all of this the only company that seemed really interested in me was Celadon. They actually made an effort to get me back. I dosent hurt that I really liked working for them and for the most part they treated me really well. I have accepted going to orientation and am scheduled to be there the 4th. Im just waiting on them to call and give me the travel arangements which will probably be like thrusday or friday. :deal:

I will be there barring someone else comes through with a sweeter deal that is just too good to refuse. Im not counting on it but it is a possibility.

Celadon can offer me the most of what I am wanting. I will have to get my passport because if I remember right june 1 you have to have it to get into Canada. They always loved sending me into Canada. They had a habit of running me from detroit or buffalo to the canadian yard and back again. Id spend a week sometimes just doing that but it was well worth it as the pay for it was good. well Im just going to be kicking back here at home spending as much time with the wife and 3 kids as possible. (2 boys and 1 girl) Yall have fun out there and Ill be seeing yall real soon.

Thank you all, Sincerely, Tom

I looked at Celadon's website again. Is the CPM correct? 32-CPM for three years experience? Any other accessorials besides dock detention (which in van is like pulling teeth to get), border crossing, short haul, extra stop, layover, breakdown, etc?
