I would be very interested in seeing those pictures, and any pictures you have of Little Audrey trucks. My father drove for Little Audrey's during the 1960's.

I re-created this truck using Rhino3d. I think I could do better with more pictures. http://jmichelsen.myartsonline.com/3...il_Page_II.htm

I still have a Pirkle t-shirt(hasn't fit for 20years) Used to run the ltl's out to LA and produce back. There downfall was when Dave?(the one that broke PST reefer)came in and started making changes, bought a company in OK and then Sam Tanksley reefer.

Ran for lIttle Audrey in '76 & '77. What a time, dead cows and pigs to the West Coast and garbage back. C & H (Cold & Hungry) was a part of the Ratner empire also.
Don't forget Digby. Midwest Enemy was a pain to deal with, Midwest out of Ft. Scott went through drivers like a slot achine does nickels. Sam Tanksley ( Shirley Temple)had good looking equipment. I ran with Pirkle trucks a lot. They had about the same traffic pattern we did. In fact we hauled a fair amount of Oscar Meyer freight too.

147 mph? The 1693 425 hp cat had 1250 lb/ft torque, stock. An ISM Cummins would out pull one today. They were about the torquiest thing at the time , but it was pretty modest by today's standards. Even juiced up it wouldn't have had what a modern engine has.
What really determines top speed is horsepower. No matter how you're geared the power that it takes to overcome wind resistance increases exponentially with speed. In fact it multiplies very rapidly. A Sprint cup car on restricter plate does well to top out at 197 on the 2.5 Talladaga 33 degree oval. It is much lighter than an 80,000 lb. semi.
