Hang in there rookie. I to am a rookie to be. I spent allot of time on the road with my brother before making a decision to get in this business and allot of research. He works for Arnold and I rode with him. He worked for some of the big ones before he started with Arnold. I want mention names. It wasn't a pleasant experience and I learned and listened to him. With this said, I will be pursuing a job with Arnold based on my expectations. Specifics as follows: No forced routing-laid back as long as you treat them with respect, dignity and professionalism-you are not Qualcomm'ed to death all day with trivial matters, idle issues or out of route issues to use as some examples-good miles-home on weekends if you want-no teams-good equipment-good benefits-pay average-regional runs and dedicated runs-can run super region if you want to. Bottom line impression I got with Arnold is all they expect you to do is your job and treat them professionally and they will do the same. They did. I'm not saying it's a perfect company but it has been a peaceful company to work for. They let you work SAFE, LEGAL AND ON TIME.

Arnold Transportation Services specializes in regional truckload freight transportation services. The company operates a fleet of about 1,500 tractors and 4,400 trailers in three regions: the northeastern, southeastern, and southwestern US. Besides its regional service, Arnold Transportation offers medium-haul (800-1,200 mile) freight transportation. In addition, the company provides dedicated contract carriage, in which drivers and equipment are assigned to customers long-term. Truckload transportation company U.S. Xpress Enterprises owns 80% of Arnold Transportation; CEO Michael Walters and other managers own the rest.
like i said 80%

I actualy have an application out to Arnold and Maverick both are waiting for me to decide which to go with. Maverick droped the bomb on me that they will only hire national fleet from TX which upset me but I just don't know much about Arnold. Arnold only offered me $.36 cpm and I drove for that 8 years ago. I've been $.42 and up for 4 years now. plus the 2200 to 2400 miles doesn't make for much of a check. of course being home does make a big difference. decisions decisions

Default Arnold Bait and switch

No newbies I was told.

Just left there two mons ago.

Fully owned by U.S Xpress we were told.

Orientation,Hotel, food and driving test was all Ok. Not paid tho.

Gene is great at giving the class. All departments sent a rep.

Insurance is the bottom of the barrel and expensive.

They use A wierd card for fuel.... I just threw it away last week and can not remmber the name of it [Embarrased grin]

I would Get a good load only to be hijacked to a yard then given little run.

100 miles or less is 50.00 $ But can be time consuming and jsut under the wire for detention.

Kept getting small runs and couldn’t make any money.

A run from my house to Florida, but drop that one in Autell, ga [145miles] Pick on up to NC for the next night.

Pick one up for Florida. Drop in Macon, ga Grab one for Virginia that drops in 2.5 three days.

Your day Dm sets you up then the night guys come on and take your good run and give you a crappy one.

All I kept hearing was "We have to service the customer"

I understand that. But the drivers are subsidizing the company out of our pockets.

No extra pay for multiple D&H's

If you park in a terminal I got three out of service stickers for nothing.

The first was just after leaving Jville with my first load stopped in Autell,ga to sleep before I del in Smyrna,ga..Woke up and red tagged for A PM.

Now I just left the yard in Jville with a freshly serviced truck.

Lost my load. Was there till 12:30 that night and then they found out that the Jville guys did'nt put my info in the system so Austell tagged me. But this can happen to any company.

They realised i was tell the truth when the wrench read the date on the fuel filter.

Home time was great till a night DM would re-route you.

I heard a Planner in Jacksonville say "I just got another one that does not no how to say no"

He was reffering to a driver that was'nt going home for the weekend.

I just kept telling them that I was I going home for the weekend and did'nt want to take the diffrent load.

A lotta head games there.

Out of my class of 16 last I heard only 8 were there still there.

To be fair not all was bad for everyone but the guys I knew were having a terrible time.

Is Arnold worse or better than any other company.I guess not.

I averaged between $200.00 to 600.00 bring home a week while I was there.

They would route you out of your area. No forced dispath from your area. You could say no thanks.

But if you take it then you can get stuck up north or somewhere till you threaten to quit and then back you go to your cozy area.

Hope this helps.

Thumbs down my enemy.....

i wouldnt wish my enemy onto this company. i drove for them as a lease purchase driver. it was impossible for them to find loads, the loads they did find, only made the truck .50-.75 per mile. i would not accept any load paying less than $1.00 a mile (after their 25% cut) my dispatcher knew this and took care of me. however, her "boss" found out about it and ordered her not to tell me how much it payed before i accepted the load (no force dispatch). i pulled a load from daytona, fl, to knoxville, tn for .44 a mile because of that. pissed as i was i asked am i a company driver or an o/o? if i am going to get paid like a company driver, then i would bring the truck back and get in a company truck. i sat for 2 weeks, waiting on a load for that. the truck got stolen, a police report to prove it, yet i was charged with thuck abandonment, AND close to $5000 in chargebacks, ranging from impound fees, towing fees, to securement equiptment, truck sale prep and a long list of other rediculous items. therefore, i would stay a company driver, save your money (150 - 200 a week) and buy you a truck outright from a dealer.
