Also, driving only in the city sucks monkey nuts  There is a mush larger dump trucking firm in town that has asphalt tankers, end dumps, and low boys. I'm going for that in March

The local jobs are there, but sometimes you need luck to get them. I quit OTR because of all the B.S. I was ready to quit trucking all together but sent out some resumees to some local driving jobs anyway. You know what? I work linehaul now in a company which was 10 minutes away from me ALL ALONG. Even while it is slow they STILL look for drivers and this slow month I lost NOT ONE DAY pay. Right now they look for CDL A AND B. I drive 6.5h every night and get paid $170 for it. If it takes longer I DONT get more, but it never took longer then 8 hours. You would have to forcefully remove me from this job and this run now. And thats from somebody who was ready to quit trucking. B.T.W, weekend extra work is always available if 5x170 wouldnt be enough. On average OTR was close to my pay now, just for DOUBLE or more hours of course. Maybe you want to take a look if there is something in your area. www.rlcarriers.com Good luck!

Another point, Ive talked to tons of local drivers making 500 bucks a week and working 12 hour days. Is that really such a great job? Hell, my pizza delivery guy makes 500 bucks a week, drives, is home every night and works less than 12 hours a day. So to say people have to be morons to drive OTR can go both ways. Many times the smartest choice IS NOT local.
