Thanks for all of the responses, drivers. I'll be at Gordon orientation on Jan 2nd. To be honest, the choice was pretty clear from the start. I just had to get that devil off my shoulder who was saying, "Baby blue trucks?? No way, you wanna roll in a gold Pete!"
It's funny you should mention the idle time hassles. Gordon is apparently 1/3 of the way through retrofitting their fleet with APUs. The May recruiter didn't know what APU stood for. Although, to be fair, she did say they have no-idle heaters.
Now I'm curious, why no cruise allowed at night? I'm sure it's about safety, but did they give any sort of detailed justification?

I alwyas see Gordon (GTI) trucks with a 3rd set of drive axle and 3rd set of trailer tandem axle. Although the tractor spare axle is up most of the time, I'm assuming they run heavy? All I know is them boys got more tires than me

Their website shows a "heavy haul" division for what I think was some dedicated Canadian runs.

I see them a lot in the PacWest with the extra axles, that could be why.

I don't see what's so bad about that when THEY are the ones paying for fuel. You wouldn't like it very much if someone took your car and let it idle for 12 hours and let you pay for all the fuel. Now if they said you can't idle AT ALL then I'd be a little upset.

Did I say there was anything wrong with it?? NO! I was just pointing out that is one of their policies. It helps when trying to make decisions. Some drivers idle more than others.

Gordon runs a ton of 105,000# equipment throughout WA, ID, MT, UT NV and OR. That's because those states allow the heavier weights on the roads. If the rest of the country were to raise the load limits, don't for a second think that all the trucking companies wouldn't be adding axles to their trucks and trailers!

Ummm...I don't really know, yet. ops: They're both about an equal distance from my home, but I've had no luck contacting my recruiters for the past couple days. What are they, vacationing with their families or something? Not that I'm sweating it; I'm nothing if not flexible. I figure it doesn't matter which terminal I do orientation at, but if one would be better than the other, please tell me.
BTW, kona, your blog was what introduced me to GTI. I've been lurking here for a couple of years, and I followed your driving career from the beginning. You made GTI sound like a good company, and they've been at the top of my list ever since.
CDL test tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Gordon's heavy haul division is based in Clackamas OR. I was over there today. Saw a lot of four axle tractors and trailers. The division also has it's own dispatch group.
