It's just you  . I don't have to wear a brown uniform. Black cargo pants and a blue polo shirt and work boots(steel toe) ,but for what they pay me, I will wear a brown uniform if asked  .

Your dress code is cool ...The brown uniform well I guess it must be my vanity that catches me up on that .

No uniform = you trash your own clothes.

Carg pants ,jeans , T-shirts ...Are cheap ,and you do not work hard enough at UPS to trash clothes really any LTL job for that matter it's not like your really doing a job that gets you down and dirty like digging ditches ,framing , or mechanic work.

It's that way all across the board. Roadway is taking a big hit, last numbers I heard is the bottom 35% of driver are layed off and many expected to not be called back. I have a buddy that drives from UPSF (worked with him at Conway). He's out of Columbus, Ohio. He said it has slowed down but not to terrible.

You should be just fine with UPSF. I wish I would have went with them, instead I went with Roadway. Give it a couple years and you guys will own the LTL biz.

Tell me that after you've built and broke down 2 sets of wiggle wagons lugging that god-awful coverter dolly around on ice and snow. Then hop on the towmotor for a patio party...breaking trailers that were loaded with a bulldozer and stacked like a Jenga puzzle. TIMBER!!!!!!!! Does a tree falling in the forest make a sound? Dunno but 2 double-stacked/side-loaded skids of plumbing supplies do. And guess who gets to clean em' up?

Then on to the friendly neighborhood grocery warehouse where you sort and segregate 5 pallets of Old El Paso tortilla chips & salsa into like 20. Head on back to homebase where you drop your peddle pup and hook to a 48 for pickups. Ooops...some moron cranked the dollies up to the moon and there's 1/2 inch of space on either side...gotta fire up the yard-horse left over from the Eisenhower administration that smokes and belches like a tar-kettle. 1986 slack adjusters and drums frozen again? Wack, wack, wack goes the mini-sledge.

Liftgate/inside delivery to some rich guy's house that looks like Miami Vice. Can't back into the driveway...gotta huff and puff his armoir like the little train that couldn't up the gated driveway while his trophy wife and snot-nosed kids watch you from the sun-room.

Like I said...no uniform and you TRASH your own clothes.

Damn.....that sounds like too much work for me....I'll stick to closing the doors/ dolly up/ collect so detention pay, etc---my clothes are always clean. Sounds like you deserve that $90,000 a year job.
It is a 90,000 a year job isn't it?

Actually, that's more like a snapshot from a day in the life of a newbie city driver: hauling sets, grocery warehouses, residential deliveries, working the dock, trailers full of tires, etc. That's why alot of guys washout from LTL because they find out that they have to actually WORK.

I've got a set peddle run so I basically just bump docks all day in a 48' trailer with a single-screw and never work the dock. Easiest job I've ever had...much easier than OTR actually. But starting out was kinda rough.

$90k? I wish!
