This is a little late but when I went back to knight this week I asked about the student training question and the answer is yes. They are going to start training new drivers fresh out of CDL school but it will be on a VERY limited basis. They are just experimenting with the idea and will only train a very select few at this time. I hope this helps.

As far as the Carlisle terminal it is one of the best for mileage.
That's because they take all the runs going west of there from the Indy drivers now  My husband has asked his dispatcher to try to get him more west now because it seems as if he gets stuck on the east coast everytime he delivers there. Terminal managers are TAKING loads away from other drivers that don't run out of their terminal. This is one part I don't like about Knight is how each terminal runs independently from each other instead of running like a "team". They are all so competitive of each other.

The reason Carlisle is the best place for mileage is because only Carlisle drivers will run up into the northeast while drivers from other terminals sit in the drivers room all day turning down loads.

I agree the terminals are very competitive, but I think the biggest problem is the drivers that refuse to take load to certain areas.

I kinda run into the same problem when I am in the Indy terminal, but just last week I took a run that a Indy driver refused going to New Jersey.
All he heard was "Jersey" and he said no way. Little did he realize that if he looked at his atlas it was south Jersey right along the beach. Beautiful ride and a re-load only 15 miles away going right back to Indy.

Some of the better loads I get are loads that other drivers have turned down. These are the same drivers I see in terminals all over the country sitting in the drivers room bitc*ing about not making enough money.

I have to agree with you dollar.
I don't know about the other big company's, but with Knight, it really strikes me as odd that drivers turning down loads seem to be in the majority!
I can't count the number of times I have re-powered load's from other drivers who don't want to go here, or there.
I really don't understand why someone would turn down a load going from Fontana (pre load on the yard)
to Camden NJ, only to reload (pre loaded From the same place!) back to Fontana!!!
Guess I prefer getting miles, to bitching about them.
Mabey the other carriers have the same problem, but with Knight there sure seem to be ALOT!

I am not a big fan of running in the northeast, mainly NY city, but a pre-load from Fontana to NJ and right back would be hard to turn down. That would make for great miles for the week.

I heard others in the Florida terminal were having trouble getting miles. I don't know personally because I never go down there. As far as the Carlisle terminal it is one of the best for mileage. Indy is pretty good too.
How busy is the Pittsburgh area, in Knight's scheme of things ? Do they recruit from this area ?

That is not completely true. My husband doesn't mind running the east coast, or does he EVER turn down a load. Keep in mind, before the Carlisle terminal even existed, the Indy drivers had all the miles they could want. My dh's region is east coast out of the Indy terminal. Ever since Carlisle got up and running, his miles coming BACK towards Indy have been difficult. He gets loads all the time going to the east coast, but trying to get back out this way, is sometimes almost impossible. He isn't one to turn down loads. He wants to run. But, if he can't get back because terminal managers are stealing loads from other drivers, whats the point? Time to run a different region if you ask me.

Knight will (for the most part) let you drive the way you like to drive.
As long as fuel stops are close and logs are right when they get them.
Yes, on the qualcom the loads are given plenty of time.
I would say 90% of the time you can be there early.
As with all company's there are the "pain in the a** loads, but not really that many.
As far as pittsburg I really don't know that area as far as the amount off biz there, I go through there ALOT! as far as to there, a few dozen times this year.
