So far so good at Superior. I feel better about getting paid something for my time. Setting at docks and truck stops for no-compensation is a very de-humanizing experience. You feel like your time (hence you) are worth absolutely nothing. For me, that is the best part of being with Superior - compensation for what you do!!! GEEZ WHAT A CONCEPT!!!!!!

I really appreciate everyone posting all this good info about Superior. I have been considering getting my CDL for several years, but the lack of reputable companies has really been a major reason I have yet to get behind the wheel. My father has been in the business for 40 years as an O/O and I know that I want to drive, but until now I have never been as motivated.

I have yet to look into schooling, but the only company that even appeals to me at this point is Superior, so naturally I will want to get my schooling where I will have the best chance at being hired by them as a rookie. Could you guys give me any insight on what the possibilities of that happening out of the Memphis terminal might be? I would appreciate any help you could give me!

Since I am not based out of the Memphis Terminal.... I don't know the particulars of that Terminal Manager's policies....so the best advice that I can give you is to call the Terminal Manager at 1-888-845-7727 and talk to him about what they can do for you. Our Terminal Managers have a certain amount of latitude in hiring and training new drivers. If you are close in to Memphis....the Terminal is out on Presidents Island... 1897 Harbor Avenue.... You could call and set up an appointment to go out and talk to him.

Hope that helps!!

It went well I guess. I met two guys from Superior. One was the terminal manager in High Point, Mac Stanley. The other was Jack McPeek the VPof Training and Development from Kingsport. They took me and another student out to lunch. I am supposed to set up a meeting with Mac next week in High Point. I guess that will be the formal interview. I gave him the driver info you PMed me. He told me that student drivers don't count for the driver recruitment bonuses FYI.

Thanks, Skywalker! I happened to talk with the terminal manager over the phone a lil while ago and now I am even more impressed! She happened to be one of the most considerate and encouraging persons I have ever spoken with. She basicly told me that they are now accepting a few "select" graduates that qualify. She encouraged me to keep in touch and even invited me to come by the terminal and speak with her in person and take a look at everything. These people are really first class and have no reason whatsoever to feed any bullshit to anyone.

In this business the companies that make the most promises deliver the least.

I think I need to change the name of the thread. It is now going into my third month.

I finished the Kingsport training a couple of weeks ago and ended up getting almost nine hundred dollars for sitting in class for 40 hours. I drove down and they paid .30 per mile for my trip and gave 100.00 for food. Not bad.

I will not be going into the detail that Cyanide does on miles and trips for each week I just plan on hitting the high points when I post.

Here's a high point I made almost 1100.00 last week and did just under 2100 miles. Freight is kind of slow right now and its tough to make good trips without some dead time but I'll take over .50 per mile for a company job.

I am currently headed for Bakersfield CA with a non placard load. Hmm I smell a couple of nice paychecks coming for this two weeks and minimum 5500 miles.

Later everyone.

I finally had my trucking epiphany. If you aren't working for UPS or other unionized carriers, then you better work with a bulk carrier. Otherwise you are on the truck driving Merry-Go-Round.

Driving doesn't have to be a miserable occupation where you constantly feel used and abused.

EUREKA!!!!!!!!!

"KEWL"... you got to me "Jack"!!! I don't know if he was on his best behavior or not.... but he is a "riot"!! He teaches alot of the course up at Kingsport, and he can keep you in "stitches" for hours on end.....and he's one heckuva nice guy to boot!!

They took me and another student out to lunch.
And all I got was a "box lunch"..... (just kidding)

I am supposed to set up a meeting with Mac next week in High Point. I guess that will be the formal interview. I gave him the driver info you PMed me. He told me that student drivers don't count for the driver recruitment bonuses FYI.
Thats ok, ..... One day....you'll meet me and buy "me" lunch and tell me how much you like the job and Superior....that can be reward enough for me. 8) Or better still.... you can tell Mac he owes me lunch.... 8) 8)

Happy to hear it went well!! Now all you have to do is follow up and stay in touch. Stopping by the terminal to meet her in person is a good idea.... Of course I don't need to say this....but you do realize you need to go in "looking good and smelling nice"....right?

And you're right....they have no reason to feed anyone any bs at all.... 8)
